Zip Fizz

Postby mellowmom » May 8th, 2006, 12:01 pm

Does anyone know if ZipFizz is alright on the MF Plan?

Costco sells it and I had been using way before I started on MF, but have been hesitant to use it since I started the program in late March. Essentially its an energy drink that comes in granulated form in little single serving tubes and you just add it to 16 to 20 ozs. of water.

Here's the stats on it;
Calories: 10
Carbs: 2g
Sugar: 0g
Sodium: 60g
Potassium: 100g

Plus about 15 other vitamins and minerals and caffeine.

Any thoughts? My son uses it and it hasn't seemed to affect his weight loss, but then again, he's a guy.

Thanks

Carmel,
A couple of my freight truck drivers take that stuff but they're not on the MF program. It has a bunch of B12 in it too, right? I have no personal experience with it, but have heard of it!

I'm guessing it's ok. I've taken that stuff before, and I don't remember it having any added sugar. I think it just has sugar alcohols in it. That said, that stuff kicked my butt!! I was in hell which stinks because I would very willingly drink something like that to get extra b vitamins in to my diet. It really doesn't have any more calories than crystal light.

I have never tried that, but I was thinking about trying the Dexatrim H20. You add it to your water to curb your appetite. It is cherry flavored. I have just seen it advertised on TV. I am going to Walgreens tonight to check the ingredients.

I really have no idea!

I don't know anything about the ZipFizz. But maybe first try taking a b-12 supplement without the caffeine. I take 2000 mcg b-12 a day(when I remember) and it seems to help.

Hugs,
Gina

Giving it a Try

Postby mellowmom » May 8th, 2006, 2:18 pm

Well, seeing as there are no major objections, I'm going to give it a try today. Monday's are my longest days. Besides my normal work day, I have a 35 mile drive each way for choir practice for 3 hours from 7-10PM . I start getting a little fuzzy around the edges about 9:30 and I still have the drive home :nutz: .

Plus, we're working on "Carmina Burana", which as our conductor likes to point out is not a very "vocally friendly" piece . Usually by 10:00PM I've lost my voice...'cuz it's VERY LOUD .
I'll try it after dinner so it won't be on an empty stomach. Hopefully, it won't bother me when I go to sleep tonight.

Anytime we add something to the program that has calories and carbs, we run the risk of messing up the balance. The Medifast plan as it is stated in the quick start guide does not leave alot of room for added carbs. If you ask a Medifast nutritionist, they will tell you that we are supposed to try to stay under 85 carbs per day......and it's not too hard to get there just eating what is on the plan.

I would stay away from that particular drink......but that's just my opinion.

I decided to hold off. We got out of practice early and I had forgotten to take it after dinner so I figured it might be too late to try it after practice.

For now I"ll stay away from it.

I also got some ZipFizz at Costco, I wanted the B vitamins because around this time of the year I get migraines (damn Phoenix sun!!) I drank it around lunch time, and at 3:00AM I was still up watching Law & Order thinking that I was never going to sleep again. So my recommendation is if you do take it, take it early in the morning. My friend drinks it before she runs any races, she said that it should be more of a sports supplement.
