WORKING NIGHT SHIFT AND ON MEDIFAST, HELP!!!

Postby kimalexrn » June 22nd, 2005, 9:05 am

HELLO,
IM A REGISTERED NURSE, I'VE BEEN OFF WORK SINCE APRIL BECAUSE I HAD CARPAL TUNNEL AND HAD TO HAVE SURGERY. I AM SOON TO RETURN. I WORK THE NIGHT SHIFT FROM 7PM-7AM. HOW DO I SCHEDULE MY SHAKES , SOUPS , MF LIFE,ETC WITH THESE HOURS. IM NOW USED TO STARTING MY FIRST SHAKE BETWEEN 7AM AND 8AM, AND THERE AFTER EVERY 3 HOURS. THIS WILL BE A LITTLE DIFFICULT, IF IM SLEEP MOST OF THE DAY. :snooze: I ALSO KNOW I CANT WORK 12 HOURS AND NOT EAT ANYTHING. IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT HAD TO FACE THIS. I HAD KNOW IDEA THAT I WOULD JOIN MF WHEN I LEFT WORK. (ALTHOUGH I'M SURE GLAD I DID). I JUST NEED TO KNOW HOW TO WORK MY EATING SCHEDULE. :?

HELP A GIRL OUT

I'm also a RN in the ICU and work 7p-7a. I started MF Tuesday and I don't go back to work until Friday, but it has been on my mind how to work this out. I don't see how it will be possible to get all 5 & a L&G in due to the change in schedule( unless you wake out of your sleep during the day to eat :? ) And as crazy as it is at work sometimes I don't get a chance to go to the bathroom for 8 hours let alone stop to fix a shake. I am just just as concerned as you because even though I just started MF yesterday, I haven't had any problems with it and I am excited about it! I wish you luck

Kim and malcmg~

There is a way around every obstacle...you can make this happen!

I work 3-11, in a cookie factory, no less, and get 2 small breaks at times that are unpredictable! I just have a shake close to when I start work, pack up 2 more meals for those "breaks" and eat two more when I get home! I am a night owl!!

I use the ready-to-drink shake boxes quite a bit, too.

Where there's a will, there's a way!!!

Good morning,

After looking @ your schedule I thought I'd jump on in and try to help. How about this:

5 PM shake (or ready to drink mfasts)
8 PM shake
Midnight (lunch) pre-made soup and crackers or lean and green
3-4 AM shake
7-8 AM bar
10 AM shake

10 AM to 5 PM Bedtime? Does this seem realistic? I always like to prepare my soups ahead of time and keep them in a cooler/lunch bag so they're ready to pop in the micro. @ lunch time.

You could also consider doing a full fast and eliminating the need for the 10 AM meal which would mean having a shake instead of the lean and green @ midnight, or your "lunch" time. Just a thought. it would also mean an earlier bed time...

The trick will be trying to manage those days off if and when you transition from a PM eating schedule to an AM schedule. What have you done in the past? Have you been able to eat consistently while juggling between the two?

And another crazy thought. What about trying to grab a mfast meal/shake while walking to the bathroom? I know it sounds a bit crazy--way beyond the concept of multi-tasking!!! I know it's not always realistic @ the workplace to take a real break and eat, but hey, we all gotta go--to the bathroom that is! I have been known to grab a quick bathroom break, and slug down my shake-- while walking briskly to the restroom. It's not glamorous, and it's not ideal, but it's sure worked in a pinch. I believe I've been known to slurp down a 12 oz. shake and make it to and from the restroom in less than 2 minutes!!!. You know, an employer may grumble about too many pit stops to eat, but hey, it's understandable when nature calls!

I hope this helps @ least a little. I admit, I don't have this type of schedule, but I do work and struggle with how to "fit it all in" like many other fellow mfasters. I wish you well. Good luck and please share your successes with us.

Have a great day.

Hi Kim - I am a nurse too although I tend to work more 3-11 or 3p - 3a. If I find I am getting behind on my supplements, I space them a little closer when it is convenient - like every 2.5 hours. I find the shakes the easiest to use for work - although I may bring a soup to have on break, or a bar to have on the way home (helps keep me awake!). I premix one or two shakes to take with me and keep them in a cooler. I usually find it difficult to get the water in though, since we are not allowed to have it at the desk :x and I don't have the time to use the bathroom frequently. Good luck going back!

I work nights, too, and am almost always on deadline, so it's hard to take time to mix up a shake or anything. I have my soups and shakes when I'm not at work, and save my bar, lean/green and oatmeal "cookies" (prepared ahead of time) for work (or sometimes even on the way to work, if I know it's going to be a rough night).

I got a few RTD drinks last week just to try, and have already gone ahead and ordered two cases. They're MUCH better to me than the regular shakes. They even taste good when they're not as cold as I'd like.

Helen and Dogma - you guys are so lucky you like the RTD shakes. I tried one last week for the first time and can I just be graphic and say: :eck:

They would be so convenient for me, but I couldn't even finish half of it. Thank goodness I only ordered 3 to try.

Oh well - you just never know, everyone's taste buds are different.

I just received my recent order and had ordered 2 RTD's to try. Well, they are on back order for them for a couple of weeks and sent me the Kids Fit choc drink. Has anyone tried these? Are they comparable in taste? I was a little bummed that I didn't get the RTD or a credit. <img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_30_115.gif' alt='' border=0>

Hi Sablebaby,

I ordered a case of the RTD's a couple of weeks ago and got the Kids Fit. Of course I freaked out. Not to worry. They are the same. I actually like the Kids Fit a little better (a little creamier to me) and will be ordering these from now on.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Tena,

I would have freaked out too! I tried one this morning and it was good. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the RTD 55 were 11 oz? For some reason I thought that. The Fit drinks are 8 ozs. If this is true then I want my missing 3 ozs! :D

I had to have one this morning as the dogs in the neighborhood woke me up two hours too early! :x It was too early to start runnning the magic bullet or else I would have been sent out with the dogs. So, a RTD is great for times like that.

I still have a dozen of the RTD (regular, not the FIT), and checked one of the boxes. They are also 8 ounces.

If anybody is really desperate, and wants to cover the cost of the product and the postage, I don't use more than one a week, if that, and would be happy to send ya some of mine.
