Why is the Medifast Ranch Better?

Postby Guest » March 9th, 2006, 7:24 pm

I recently purchased some Hidden Valley Ranch (Fat Free) dressing. When I looked at the nutrional stats, I saw this...

Serv. Size - 2tbsp
Calories - 30
Total Fat - 0g
Saturated Fat - 0g
Trans Fat - 0g
Sodium - 310mg
Cholesterol - 0mg
Total Carb - 6g
Fiber - 0g
Sugars - 3g
Protein - 0g

Here is the nutrional information on the medifast brand...

Calories - 70
Total Fat: - 6g
Saturated Fat - 1g
Cholesterol: 0-5 mg
Sodium: 320-360 mg
Potassium: 0 mg
Total Carbs: 3-5 grams
Dietary Fiber: 0 grams
Sugars: 2-4 grams
Protein: 0 grams
Vitamins & Minerals: 0% daily value

From looking at this, every noticable area puts the Hidden Valley dressing as a better product. Is there something I am missing? The only thing I can find is that the Medifast version is lactose free, while the Hidden Valley version uses a some buttermilk.

I am not too sure about the answer to your question however I do know that everything on Medifast is carefully balanced including the ingredients. I use Walden Farms dressings and they do make a ranch. Hoepfully someone will come along with a more accurate answer than what I gave you. If you can get it though try the Walden Farms they are calorie free carb free and fat free too but they taste wonderful

Looks like the Medifast version has half the carbs and less sugar, for one thing. And how many tablespoons is the Medifast portion?

They DO say you can have nonfat or low-fat dressing if it's also low in carbs. You don't HAVE to have the Medifast version.

I have to say, I was a little surprised by the calorie count of the dressings. 70 calories is only 20 less than we get in a shake! But Medifast knows what they're doing, and they've been doing it for a long time . . . however, simply because I love the taste of it (and it's only 20 or 25 calories, can't remember which), I think I'll stick with my Bernstein Light Fantastics Cheese Fantastico. There's something about the texture of the Walden Farms dressings I just haven't been able to come to terms with. But that Cheese Fantastico? Great stuff.

Walden Farms? Library paste. I'm glad to see someone else out there who doesn't like that stuff. I was beginning to think I was the only one.

Unfortunately, medifast doesn't list that information. When I see something like "2-4g", I tend to think that it is toward the high end. I guess that's just the skeptic in me.
