Whats the worst thing

Postby Lucy » January 12th, 2007, 5:55 am

I am sure someone has brought this up before, but I decided to ask the question...deal or no deal...Nope wrong question!

What is the #1 reason why you want the weight off? For me, I notice the effects of weight in an utter lack of organization. Before the fat I was Felix Unger, for those youngers he was one 1/2 of the Odd Couple, the neat freak, the I have total energy and can be so organized kinda guy.
That was me, now hefting 125 extra pounds it does not happen. So my number one reason to lose the weight is to have the energy to be organized again!

It is my hope this thread will help keep some focused on why they are MFing, sice this is the drop off point for many after the New Year.

Discipline is the art of choosing between what you want now, and what you want the most.

I want to loose so that I can be the person I am suppose to be...and so that I can be there for my kids in the future.....so that I have more selection on clothes shopping...as material as that sounds its true...so that I have energy to do many things...cleaning is last on my list of why I want more energy...and last......so that I look good riding my motorcycle at all the bike rallies my husband and I go to :)

I'd have to say my #1 reason to losing the weight is to be in shape. Able to keep up with people when walking, able to climb stairs - lots of them. A thought hit me oneday, as I was walking to my car from my office. I work downtown. Though it's not bad, but I thought one day "what if someone were to attack me or try take my purse. I am a HUGE target" I wouldn't be able to fight back or run away, or run after anyone. That makes me very unnerved. So I definitely want to get into shape.

To not feel invisible in certain groups anymore. To not to have to feel the need to shout ""I'm here!!!"

To have one less thing to worry and be self-conscious about. I know me, and I'm sure I'll find other things to obsess about it, but something different would be nice.

The number one reason I started was to get off of my BP meds. But I'll tell you what......there are lots more reasons to do it, not the least of which is the energy factor.....and man! I feel like a woman!

Would it hurt your feelings if I asked in your real life if you were high maintenance with control issues? I can say the same about myself. Just wondering...

I want to be live a HEALTHY long life. I don't want to age with disease, aches and pains, and an the inablility to take care of my own physical needs. I want to grow old gracefully, and be here to see my kids and grandkids grow up!

Sorry, I didn't realize it was such an insult to think you were like me!

To be honest, I had given up. Unequivocably, profoundly given up with conviction and resound.

My sister, who loves me dearly, could see more clearly than I how miserable and incapacitated I had become. (When you've lost hope, you shruggingly accept such things as a matter of course.) After about 6 weeks, backed by her success, she talked me into it.

So, that's why I did it. And I will maintain until I die that I'd be on this program anyway even if I hadn't lost an ounce because, mentally and emotionally, I'm back.

Not that I'm not having a BLAST with the physical changes... ;)

DarkandStormy -- thanks for your work as a moderator. It's nice to know we've got even MORE inspiration along this topic elsewhere on the boards. And since I don't read even a tenth of what's on here given time, etc., I really appreciate the redirection.

Hi, Lucy ~

It would be hard to narrow it down to one particular reason why I decided to go for it; primarily I wanted to prevent diabetes and improve the quality of my life in all areas – mind, body and soul.

A by-product of being a loser is having a neater closet, BTW. Now the desk is another story…

Some of the above comments made me think of a time not long before I started the program that made me feel freaked. I was with a woman about 10 years older than me (I was 53 at the time); she experienced chest pains and was clearly in distress. I called 9-1-1. When the paramedics/fire fighters arrived, they whipped off her shirt and bra, there she was in all her glory as they performed their duties. She was a person of size – much smaller than I was but hefty – it took the EMTs a moment or two to readjust and secure her as they lifted her onto the traveling bed.

It made me consider how I would look to others (admittedly shallow and vain). Shudder, should I have an emergency, I did not want people gazing at my flab rolls and my weight could prevent emergency personnel from providing me with life-saving help. I still had a lot of livin’ to do and didn’t want to miss out on it.

Another factor: I got a peeky pooh at my medical record lying on the counter while I awaited my doctor: obese female.

 Ouch! That hurt. I couldn’t face the fact that it described me.
