That's how mine is. It's just a flat thing, so you put your plate or bowl on it, hit a button to reset it to zero, and then add your food. Got mine at Target over where the cooking gadgets and utensils are. It was kind of hidden with all the other stuff, though.
If you get really desperate, go to your local Weight Watchers. They have good ones, too.
Oh, and my lean varies. Lately it's been chicken a lot, but I also have beef and lamb regularly. Fish/seafood mostly just when I eat out, which isn't very often these days, unfortunately. When I have salad, which is almost all the time right now for some reason, it's half a portion of chicken and half a portion of low-fat cheese.
