What should I do?

Postby malcmg » June 20th, 2005, 9:18 pm

I got my medifast shipment today! But, I don't know what to do. I want to start in the morning but July 4th weekend I am leaving to go to Indiana to visit my sister and will be gone for a week. Should I go ahead and start, wait until I get back, or do my best to stick with it while I am there? I'll be there for my nephew's birthday, so of course cake and ice cream will be there too. Also, can I drink as much unsweetened decaf tea as I want, and will that count toward my water servings?

Good morning Malcmg,

Congratulations for making the decision to go for it and get healthy with mfast. You know, everyone is different as has a unique experience or opinion about how to get started. I've heard many suggest that you start during a time when you won't have a lot of distractions, or challenges with a new program, especially since mfast does require some drastic changes. You mentioned the July 4th party and such and that would definitely be a challenge. I on the other hand, decided to "go for it" and started in the middle of the holiday season. I realized that there would never be "a perfect time" to start, since I had done such a good job of making excuses as to why I needed to wait, for years! As a heavy person, I was quite skilled at justifying the decision to "start tomorrow, next week, next month, etc."
With my life I realized that perfect time was (is) right now. Ideally you will have family and friends that support your decision and realize that there will always be a slice of cake waiting for you at the finish line, just not right now. Perhaps the 5 and 1 would be a good option, and you can pack/prepare at least one of you meals to enjoy with family to celebrate.

So...I wish you luck with whatever you decide to do. I imagine that when you start, you will find the best path that works for you.

Take care,

No matter when you decide to start, there will always be "occasions" that come up and you will have to be ready to handle them. Two weeks after I started was Valentine's Day, and usually we would go out for dinner. There would be candy around that I couldn't have if I was on program. I didn't wait to start after that, I just started. I've gone away for weekends and stayed on program. There are people here who have to travel for work, and they stay on program.

When your mind is set on doing the program, no matter what comes up, then that is a good time to start. The first couple days can be rough for some folks as your body adjusts, so keep that in mind. Good luck!

Only you can answer this and you probably know deep down inside when you want or should start. Just look at what is on your plate and see what will work for you. I believe starting now would only benefit you. Plus, since you'll be busy, it might even be easier to just drink a shake and then go on with your day. And, if you start now you will be so much thinner by the time you were thinking of starting. How cool would that be? Good luck to you! :D

Hi and welcome! Congrats on deciding to JUST DO IT! There will never be a perfect time - there are always trips, birthdays, special dinners, etc. You will have time to adjust and get used to using all the products before your trip so that is a plus! And you should be down a few pounds before you go too! :yippee: Best of luck - keep in touch!
