What I Learned Today...

Postby mellowmom » June 5th, 2006, 6:43 pm

...the IMPORTANCE of eating on time, and SLOWLY!!!

I was running around doing errands for the family today and lost track of time and when I last ate. So I realized it was 5:00PM and I still had to pick up some meds for my mom at the pharmacy and I hadn't eaten since noon and I was starving!

So I pulled into the local Subway ordered myself a tuna salad with non-fat dressing and INHALED it in less than 5 minutes!

It was like I was a Lean (well maybe not so lean) Mean & Green Eating Machine.... And now I have a rumbly in the tummy, I feel stuffed and sluggish with just a hint of acid reflux...

Hope to never duplicate that experience again! I know, I'll pay attention to the time and try hard to never put myself in that position again.

Gotta go to the gym now to see if I can get this "bowling ball" in my stomach to disappear.

Thanks for letting me vent. Hopefully one of the Newbies can benefit from my lesson today.

Yup, I learned that the hard way, too. I think a lot of us have! I always, always, always (well, ALMOST always) keep extra packets and bars with me.

Hi Carmel,

Just this afternoon, I called Medifast and ordered a case worth of RTD's, for the very reason I don't want to get stuck, while running errands, without any supplements. Bars would be perfect, if it wasn't so hot here, as the coating makes a gooey mess, even in a 10 minute time frame. At least, if the RTD's get warm, then I will be having a warm drink!!! Just a thought. :D Joan

I order uncoated bars in the summer for just this reason. I usually keep a couple of cranberry bars in my purse during the summer. (Warm RTDs are not pleasant, FYI. Room temp is OK, but I left one in a car in Sacramento for a few hours once and ... eyew.)

*Passing Carmel the antacids*

Oh, Carmel! I know that feeling exactly! I try to make sure it doesn't happen now, but in the begining it was a real challenge to remember to eat and then it was too late. I think I inhaled 5 dill pickles in a row standing in front of the fridge once.

Thanks for sharing this! Hopefully others WON'T learn it the hard way thanks to you!

I KNOW the feeling! :) You aren't alone in this busy rush-rush world! :)

When I went to Montreal I didn't have any RTD's, but I did have those little 8 oz bottles of water (easier for kids to carry) and found that if I opened and took a sip, I could pour a shake packet in there and shake it up and it was PERFECT!!!! I recycled the bottles when I was done. So if you dont' have any RTD's, that might be an easy alternative to keep in the car?

Almost everywhere sells the 12 oz bottled water cold. Just drink 4 oz, pour in a packet and get shakin'. I'm going to keep a box of shakes in my car. Great idea. Man never leave chocolate, lipstick, chapstick, candles, cd's, dvd's, videotapes, dogs, kids or anything else of value to you in a car in Sacramento. People have actually cooked dinners in their car before. It's like a giant crockpot.
