What kind of turkey can I have?

Postby ascicles » March 10th, 2006, 9:04 am

I rarely am able to find cutlets and I don't want to buy a full bird. What are my options for finding good, healthy, turkey?

They usually sell just the thighs or breast of turkey and you can cook those and have it ready for you when you want it. I do that a lot - cook a couple of big turkey thighs or breast in the oven and there is enough there for two or three meals. I just pull the skin off of them before I roast them.

I thought about that, but I am trying to find something that I can grill on my George Foreman.

I think I'll go to Fresh Market this weekend. They seem to have a lot of meat choices and cuts that my local grocery store doesn't have.

Turkey Choices

Postby She2chat » March 11th, 2006, 2:20 am

I use Ground Turkery alot, you can make them into burgers, or just have it ground and spice it up.

My fav right now is Taco seasoning and a little water heated in the microwave over a bed of lettuce.. Sprinkle a little more spices if needed.. a little dry, but its like a "taco" type of salad..

I hope this helps!

Turkey

Postby Pashta » March 16th, 2006, 10:22 am

Market Day is a fund-raising thing for private and religious schools and they have the BEST frozen food. It is all packaged in perfect 4 oz steaks/cutlets in single packages, and in some cases it's even less $ than the grocery store. I LOVE it. They have plain chicken breast, turkey steaks, teriyaki chicken that are all wonderful and low calorie.

I didn't know I liked turkey until I tried their turkey steaks, OMG. Just put it on the grill and add a tiny bit of seasoned salt. Sooooo good and only 120 calories I believe. I don't know if we are allowed to post urls here, so just do a search for market day but the site is just the name and dot com.

I posted about turkey tenerloin and got a craving for some and I have not had any since I started Medifast so I went to the store and the only ones they had were marinated in Lemon Pepper and Teriyaki which both had tons of sugar so now I am on a quest to find and unmarinated turkey tenderloin. I will let you know if I find one.

Hmmm, I may give that a shot. Thanks for the tip.

MMMMMM turkey sounds so good right now. I like it loads better than chicken. Next time I go shopping I'm going to pick me up some. :)

If you use ground turkey, make sure that it is marked ground turkey breast. I wasn't careful last time and wound up with a mixture of white and dark and it had a lot more fat than just the breast.
