What am I doing wrong ????

Postby Tiolazz » April 20th, 2006, 7:55 am

:(

I am trying to figure out what is going wrong.

I did great the first week on the plan, second week I did great until I went to my brothers for Easter weekend, but still managed to stay mostly compliant, however I did feel like I was starting over on Sunday, which I did....

This week I have been on plan all week... On Tuesday I had a dentist appointment which went sour quickly. He informed me that I had to have a root canal right then, and then a temporary crown on top of that.

I was not prepared for that. I had drank two bottles of water before I got to the dentist, because I figured I would be there about an hour or so... I also drank my cappuchino on the way in.

Well after almost 5 hours in the chair, I was starving, and my stomach was growling so loud they were all laughing about it, (I however was in no laughing mood)

I had never had ANY type of work done on my mouth before, and to top it all off, my dentist's battery operated drill went dead so he had to do the root canal by hand. Suffice it to say, it was by far, the most unpleasant thing I have ever gone through, including giving birth to two children with no drugs of anykind.

Soooo, I left there after 1pm, sick at my stomach, and not able to hardly move my jaw. I attempted to drink the shake that I had made the night before and frozen. (I thought that by the time I got out of the dentist office it would be thawed out in the car). Well it was thawed, but also very cold and when it hit that tooth, OMG, I thought I was going to pass out...

Long story I know, but the juxt of it is that I didn't drink anymore water, or eat anything else that entire day. I went to work and then at 4pm when I got off, I went home took some pain med's and went to bed with an ice pack. All day Wednesday, (yesterday) I was still in pain, but I did try to do my shakes, soup for lunch and an oatmeal muffin for the afternoon meal... I could hardly eat any of it because my mouth was so sore...

I stepped on the scale this morning, and had not lost one stinking pound since last Sunday, which was also the same as the Sunday before, that is almost 10 days with no loss.

What am I doing wrong, I am getting really discouraged here.

I am back on track, drinking, drinking and drinking today, and have all my meals for today cause the mouth is much better, but just wondering if anyone has any ideas about why my weight loss has just stopped.

I have been so good, nothing off plan, measuring everything out, except for the days when I did not eat all I should have, but I can't imagine why that would stop my weight loss....

HELP !!!!! :aarggh:

Well...I am right there with you girl.Though I haven't gone 10 days I have gone 4 days without a change.I am on day 10 and I figured the first 2 weeks I would see the lost most.
I posted a message as well about my concern.Ascicles said it happened to him as well and also Trixie.I guess its common.

I thought I did something wrong too.I have been 100% on track and nothing is changing.

But ....we can't give up thats for sure.

I hope tomorrrow you see a big drop.I will cross my fingers and toes for us both okay.

Ok, my dear kiddies, the word for the day is (say it with me)............P-A-T-I-E-N-C-E.

I will use it in a sentence:

Stick to the plan religiously, go about your life, and have patience.....the pounds will leave....Not always in your time, but in their own time, they will split and never return......If the scale bothers you.....put it away or have a trusted friend/spouse hide it.

Your early program can be a very emotional time. Please don't let the scale's fickleness discourage you. Read posts. Look at those amazing tickers. Look at the success here. What more proof do you need? We have all been where you are.....you can be where we are if you just have a little patience.

Okay--I am also on week 2. I don't weigh everyday, though. I only weigh once a week. But, I will tell you that if you don't keep your body in a constant state of, well, digestion, it will slow down your metabolism. Thus, we eat 6 times a day. You see, doing this keeps the body burning up fat stores constantly. When you went that day without your water and supplements, the body started to wonder when it would get fed again, so it stopped metabolizing and started holding on. I completely know how it feels to have your mouth worked on. It hurts. A Lot. But, now you are back on track and you should start seeing results soon. You have had a tough week personally and it affects every aspect of your life. Also, remember that pain killers may cause water retention and constipation. It is gross, but you just might need to let go of some "stuff". Try eating cabbage. Works for me!! I grill it in a tin foil pouch with a little I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and some onion powder. I spray the foil with Mazola Extra Virgin Olive Oil nonstick spray. It is like Pam, only without alcohol and silicon. Make sure you get in all of your water, and try to relax. Worrying and obsessing over it will only make it worse. Let me worry about it for you. Deal??

Deal, and thanks everyone for your words of wisdom....

I am not going to quit, but just feeling a little depressed about the loss of loss. LOL

I knew that Tuesday and Yesterday sent my body into a tail spin, I can feel the difference, but going to hang in there.

Hopefully on Sunday I will have some good news to report...

Tiolazz,
hey chickie hang in there hon. I totally hear ya on how frustrating it can be when that dang scale justs stays in the same place. Just remember that you had a FABULOUS girl and I do mean FABULOUS first week and your body is probably adjusting. I know that I haven't been losing as quickly as I did in the first and second week. I am only down 1.1 pounds this week so far but I know that by sunday I will be good to go. I agree you may need to take something like the Sugar Free Metamucil (sp?) I think I may need to get some too. Quite different from when I was eating crap that stuff couldn't wait to get outta my body hehhe. We are here for you honey and we are going to do this together one day at a time.

 Oh, no! Not the :x DREADED RC? Without an automatic drill? Sheesh! You are some kinda woman to deal with THAT. I prefer to be knocked out! I have had my fair share of root canals...I think I have 6 fangs that remain intact, all my others are canal-less. That sounds like you had a very :bricks: rough day – that alone would traumatize your body – it was a mini-surgical procedure. I am  confident that you will be back in the losing mode very soon. :goldstar:

When we skip meals, it slows down our metabolism and the weight loss process is affected. When we add ‘extras’ like your Easter experience, it throws us out of the fat-burning state, slows down the weight loss process and then we start the three days over. Just consider this a super learning experience and now the next time you are faced with chocolate covered marshmallow eggs, you’ll recall this slow down, you’ll think carefully about what you want to do and it will be easier to say, “No thanks, not now. I’ll choose to pass that by for now in exchange for a :yay: happier and healthier tomorrow.”

The keys to rapid safe weight loss:

Have the first meal of the day within the first hour of crawling out of the :snooze: snore sack.

Eat :eat: every 2.5 to 3.0 hours; never go more than 4 hours. You had no way to poke a RTD straw in the corner of your mouth and sip away while you were in Dr. Demento’s Drill Chair. You did your best so we cannot whip you with a tape measure. Let that day go. You are back on track now.

Drink a load of water. Dr. Andersen is now telling us we need to drink about 90-100 ounces of wah-wah a day. If we divide our current weight in half (ok, do the math Everyone. Got your number in mind?) Drink that weight number of ounces of water each day and we’ll be in good shape from :runner: running to the sandbox.

Carefully follow the meal guideline for the Lean and Green meal – weigh the meat portion; measure the veggies.

Serendipity is right-on.

This program works.

This program rocks!

You cannot fail. Stay focused.

Give yourself some time to get the process underway. It takes three full weeks for our body to adjust to using our stored flabbage for its energy source.

When we are not in the weight loss mode, eating the typical American diet, our body uses the carbs and sugars we eat for its needed quick energy.

Once we begin the Take Shape For Life program using Medifast, we have cut the carbs and sugars way, way down and the body then has to convert its stored energy (the flabola) into a useful state and it takes it a while to do so. Once we getcha there, the body becomes efficient at converting the ketones to energy and the flabola melts away.

Your job is to mix it up, shake it and :toast: drink it down. Wash your jar and your good to go for three more hours.

Stay off the scale….’til Sunday!
You can do it! I believe in you!

The water can be tough. Two of my friends just started medifast this past monday. One of them went from a 4 16oz bottles of REGULAR Mountain Dew DAILY habit to only drinking water!! Thankfully she got off the Mountain Dew last week!!! Now she is really struggling with drinking all of her water. I told her to just keep drinking a little more each day until she builds up to 64oz then keep building up until she is drinking 1/2 her weight in oz of water. She's NOT loving the water at all! poor thing! So, keep on slurpin and do your best to add a little more water each day, until you're in the groove of drinking enough. Trust me, it's worth it! The weight comes of much faster when you flush out your system with lots of good ole pure H2o ;)

I SO understand! Remember...I'm the person whose only water intake what what got on my toothbrush when I ran it 90 MPH under the running stream!

I thought I'd croak with the 64 ounces and it took me a long time to work up to THAT amount. Day by day, we add a bit more water. We get used to following our new way of living day by day...you will notice a significant improvement in your weight loss when you drink water and eliminate the diet pop...

Besides estrogen beng stored in our flabola, there are food additives, toxins, preservatives, etc. We're flushing that crud outta there with every slurp of water and every flush of the well...you know...

buh bye flab! :byebye:

Ohhhh the dreaded Root Canal
The year before last I had 4 of the nasty things. Had to go to an endodontist because just my luck -- long curly roots --- I finally told him "he was a really nice guy but I just didn't want to vist again" so far soooo good :D Makes you paranoid though
Take it easy -- that was a surgical procedure. I too think you probably didn't get in enough calories so your body stalled a bit. Plus just the shock of all that dental work probably didn't help at all.
We'll be checking on you. :D
