I went to the Dr. Today

Postby supermom » July 19th, 2006, 3:03 pm

Okay--I hade my "annual" exam today. UGH! I so hate that. I got an IUD. Not nearly as bad as I had imagined it would be. I also had to schedule an appointment for a mammogram. I have this strange place that he is a little concerned about. I so don't want my tit smashed in a vice! This is really getting me worked up.

Anyway, I had boycotted the scale a few weeks ago. I know that I have lost inches, as I can tell in the way my clothes fit. (Or don't fit, I guess I should say!) Anyway, I begged and pleaded, but they made me stand on the scale. Alright folks. I had not weighed in his office since last October after I got out of the hospital after having my baby in August. At that point, I weighed 274 pounds. My highest weight EVER!! I started Medifast in April at 237 pounds. Can I have a drumroll please.................................................................................................

I weighed 194 today!! Yep, 194. I was so delighted! But, I am still NOT getting out the scale at home. YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

When I get on the scale at the doctor's office I close my eyes and ask the nurse not to tell me how much.

Laurie, That is awespome. I am so proud of you. I hadnt read that you had a Dr's appt yet today. That just proves to me even more what a big heart youve got. I mean, there you were, offering me supprt on the other thread, and youve got your own"stuff" to deal with. I hope your test results come back that you are perfectly fine, from your mammogram. That's awesome, Laurie (about the weight, not about the annual exam; yuck). Have you had a mammo before? I've never found them as bad as I expected. They're uncomfortable, and maybe even painful for a minute, but as soon as they release you you're fine again.

I hope everything checks out OK!

Nope! This will be my first one. I will be the BIG 35 on August 29. He said it would be a good idea to go ahead and get a baseline anyway, even if I didn't have the "spot". It is just a place on my left breast that gets hot and inflamed from time to time and turns funky colors. It doesn't have any discharge, and it isn't the typical orange peel skin seen with breast cancer, but it does dimple. He said everything "feels" okay, but he wants to see a mammogram to be sure. Next time it gets inflammed, he is also going to do a little biopsy to see what is in the area that gets inflamed. I just have horrible images of a mammogram, and I don't know how they are EVER going to get my boob smashed flat in that thing!

Laurie, A bit of advice. I have to have a mammogram every year because my sister had breast cancer. Make sure you are NOT premenstrual when you go. It is so painful at that time. Unfortunately, it also has alot to do with which tech you get. I had a girl fumble around so much once that she had to squeeze the vice 9 times to get the pics!

Thanks for the advice, Jo. I am going to have my friend's dad do it. He is actually a nuclear medicine guy, but he used to do mammo's and he said he would be happy to do it for me. He does my mom's and she says he is really gentle.

Hey, Supermom-

First, congrats on major scale greatness! You are doing so well!

Second, I just had my first mammo yesterday (weird timing, right?), and it so wasn't a big deal at all. I also have, ahem, very large tatas, and I actually think getting a mammo is easier for us because it doesn't pinch as much close to the chest, there's more pliability. Does that make sense?

Just go to your zen-like place, don't fret about it, and go with the flow. It was a few minutes long, and then it's over.

Best of luck on the results, I am sure you're going to be just fine...

Ciao!
