Weight Loss too slow???

Postby Wynslett » August 9th, 2007, 3:16 pm

Hi there-
I started MF back on 7/14/07. I really am beginning to love the program, as I'm finding the foods that I like and sticking with those. I hated the program at first because I really really missed "real food". I've learned to put a lot a thought into my L&G and really sit down and enjoy it. Anyway, I feel like my weight loss progress is very slow. i feel like I should have lost more weight by now. I started MF at 182, and I'm down to 175. Beleive me, I am greatful for the small loss, but does it seem like I'm on track and losing like I should? I don't stray at all from the plan and just this week I began a walking routine. I just wanted to hear from others to see how my weight loss has compared to theirs. So am I doing ok? I know I need to be patient, but I really want this weight off!!! I am a type II diabetic so my weight loss has always been slow. My glucose levels are phenomenal I must say however. I haven't had this good of control since diagnosed 5 years ago AND I've even cut my diabetes meds in half since starting MF! Thanks for listening!

Hi wynslett,

You have been on for just over three weeks and have lost 7 pounds. the average is 2-5lbs a week and you are just over 2lbs a week.

Some people will lose faster and some slower but stick with it dont get discouraged and the weight will steadily come off.

I don't know what your daily meal plan is but advise i have had is to have 2-3 shakes a day minimum and if you feel your losing to slowly you might cut out the bar (if your eating one) for a while and see if it make s a difference it is higher in carbs and calories and is not balanced like the other meals are.

Also make sure your getting all 5 meals and 64 oz at least of good ole water.

I hope this helps you and im sure someone will reply with alot more knowledge than I :)

Good Luck Happy Losing

Larry

Hi there. Larry gave some great info.
To help more, can you give us an idea of how your typical day goes. Also, being diabetic, are you using the diabetic program? If so, one thing to make sure of is that if you are having the bar, have it as your last replacement (diabetic plan only).
Other than that, make usre you are drinking lots of water, measure the L&G, limit the salts, etc.

Let us know a bit more so maybe we can help more.

Thanks Larry and Mike for the replies.

Larry-great job on being able to reduce your diabetes meds! Isn't it wonderful!!! I'm on Metformin as well. I was taking 1000mg 2x daily, but since starting MF, have been able to cut down to 500mg 2x daily. Just today my Dr. gave me the ok to stop 1 of my blood pressure meds as well. This plan is great, things are really coming along. Best thing is, after worrying about my slow progress, I got on the scale this monring and am down 3 pounds from yesterday??? Must have been some water weight is all I can guess. I'll take it though, any loss is a great loss!

Mike- I'm using the regular MF foods and not the diabetic choices. A typical day is as follows:

7:00am-MF eggs with a tablespoon of pace salsa or a MF hot chocolate, Cappuccino, or Chai Latte
10:00am-MF pudding
1:00pm-MF soup choice or chili w/MF garden vegetable crackers.
4:00pm-MF iced tea or fruit punch blended w/ ice
6:30pm-L&G-varies on food choices, but am careful to measure EVERYTHING. I always choose the leaner cuts of meat and buy my veggies fresh instead of canned choices. I grill my meats only- on the BBQ (no sauces) or on the George Foreman grill. 2x a week I will have the alotted amount of tuna from a can packed in water.
8:30pm-MF shake blended w/ ice.

Occasionally I will have a bar for my 10:00am meal depending on how hectic my work day is going, but I limit it to 3 bars a week max.

I'm really sticking to this, and hope that I am making good choices. Oh, and I'm drinking water ALL DAY. I make it a point to have my 64+ ounces beforeI treat myself to a diet soda. Only after I get my water in, do I get a soda...LOL So what do you think???

Sounds like your doing wonderful :) i do have one question though
I will have the allotted amount of tuna from a can packed in water

Are you weighing your tuna after you drain it? if your only having 1 can of tuna you only getting 1/2 of your lean serving. I get from 2 5/8-3oz of tuna after i drain it

Its wondeful seeing my blood sugars like this i was taking 2 5/500mg of Glucovance 2x a day Byetta shot 2x a day and Actos once a day now i am taking 1 500mg of Metformin 2x a day

Keep up the good work!!!!!

Well, looks like you are doing fine on the choices. Only thing I would really look at is the time from your last meal at 830 and the time for your first one in the AM. Thats 10 1/2 hours between meals, which is a possible slow down (your body may feel like its needing something overnight).
If I were to tweak anything it would be to space out your later meal a bit and try and have your last meal maybe an hour later. Also, drink extra water (some drink the minimum 64 oz, others drink 120 or more a day). More is better.
Can't see much else that might be slowing anything, so it may just be your body being stubborn.

As for the meds... you go both of you. Before I began losing weight I was taking 2 diab meds and a water pill in the AM and 2 diab meds and a diff HBP med in the evening. I no longer take those.
When I gained weight back, my doc put me on a cholesterol med but I am off of that now also.
The plan works.

Hi there Beth,
I think you're doing great!! The weight loss is coming along and your numbers (sugar that is) are great. You're cutting down on your meds .. and avoiding the terrible side effects of diabetes.
Now to the actual weight loss. Remember diabetics tend to part with the pounds a bit slower than non-diabetics. Plus weight loss is highly individual .. some lose fast and some lose s l o w  But it is coming off. And remember weight loss is not linear .. so who knows your body just might surprise you and part with a little more than 2 pounds one week. And I know you'll lose faster than you did the other way.
Just keep going .. look at the long run .. you're getting healthier every day!!! :D :D

Yes, after I drain it. I do use 2 cans. Puts you pretty close to the recommended serving. I can see how that can be confusing to some though.
