Weight loss?

Postby TEEJ » March 2nd, 2006, 4:23 pm

Okay, I started medifast about 2 weeks ago with an unfortunate break of a couple days...I ran out and my order came 2 days later. I started from the beginning again and am on day 4 (very tired). I was feeling really good before!...I lost about 5 pound before and noticed it right away. I was able to maintain that loss eventhough I had a break. My question is if I don't really have a whole lot of weight to lose (20 lbs) is it going to take me a lot longer to lose it? I haven't lost anymore so far this week.
I am an instant gratification person and have a hard time staying on any diet unless I see some progress. Does it take a couple of days for the weight to start to come off?

In my experience, and in every case I've heard of, the answer to your question is yes. It will take a little bit longer to loose 20 lbs if you are not that overweight to begin with then if you are say 100 lbs overweight. Thats just the way it is. First of all, you metabolism naturally increases a little bit the more you are overweight. For example a 21 year old 5 foot tall female with moderate activity level at 260 lbs has a basal metabolic rate of right around 1800 cal/day. That same woman at 160 lbs. has a basal metabolic rate of 1470 cal/day. What this means is that if she eats 1000 cal/day and weighs 260 lbs she is at a loss of 800 cal/day. BUT if she is 160 lbs then she is down only 470 cal/day. So, she is not loosing as much each day at 160 as she would be at 260 lbs.

I lost 74 lbs on medifast. The first 20 lbs came off in 5 weeks. The last took just under 3 months. A good rule of thumb is to expect about 2 lbs a week when you are only 10 or 20 lbs over. But if yu stick with it it will be off before you know it. It's not like you are going to have to work at it for 2 years or anything. I promise if you stick with the diet for a couple of months you will see a huge difference. Just don't give up, it works
