As long ago promised, here are my before and somewhat-after pictures. In the first, I am an insulin-dependent diabetic, suffering from hypothyroidism, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage so severe in my legs I was using a walker and on my way to a wheelchair), diabetic infections (one nearly fatal that put me in the hospital for a week), and the beginnings of seizures or mini-strokes according to my Neurologist. And at 340 pounds, that was not the extent of my medical issues. My doctors' had pretty much told me I had a year to live at best.
And here I am recently - my "On The Way to Goal Picture" - about 125 pounds thinner after 10 months on Medifast. I am completely confident that I will lose the remaining 60-70 pounds to reach my goal by summer. Beyond the weight loss, I am so grateful that my health has improved tremendously. Two weeks on Medifast and I was off insulin. Two weeks after that, I stopped taking my oral diabetic drugs. My Cardiologist dismissed me from care in October, seven months into the program, saying he saw no sign of the blockages I had been treated for (for over eight years). My neuropathy has disappeared - I can walk 5 miles on the treadmill now if I choose to! There has been no reoccurrence of the blackouts I was beginning to experience and I no longer see the Neurologist. My Endocrinologist called in December to lower my thyroid meds. Geez, now if only I could knock off a few decades.
The next picture I post will probably be from my daughter Kim's June 24th wedding - and hopefully, we will all be at goal. The Medifasters in my circle include my husband Larry, daughter Bethany, the bride herself, her fiance, his mother, father, sister and aunt, 2 bridesmaids, and one groomsman scheduled to start the day after Super Bowl. By the time we get to the wedding, I expect others of the wedding party will also have become shakers. We'll give you a pound count when we get there! Blessings to all.
