Was I too snippy?

Postby bikipatra » April 16th, 2007, 8:12 am

My husband and I went to Union Station so I could go to Origins and we wandered into the jewelry store where he has purchased two rings for me since December. Since we were there I asked the saleswoman about their resizing policy because my rings are getting looser and looser. She asked me why and I said I was on a diet. She said, "Oh don't worry, every time you diet you gain it back. It always happens to me!" She was a size 6-8. I said, "No I don't think so. I have lost 55 pounds and still have 43 to lose and don't plan on gaining any back." She said, "It's not possible, nothing can keep you from gaining more weight again." And I said "Yes it can. Following this diet I will be on a transition plan and a then maintenance plan, so no, I won't gain my weight back." Then I said I am so glad you resize for free because I will be needing it. She was taken somewhat aback by the look on her face. I said "Thanks so much!" and left.

No, I don't think you were. I keep saying the service has gone out of customer service. Doesn't matter what she believes, she had no right to be so negative about your loss. Boo to her!

Doesn't sound snippy at all to me. She was the one in the wrong by criticizing you and she doesn't even know you. :x

You were not snippy at all. I think I would have given her a piece of my mind. How dare a stranger make that kind of a comment!

You handled yourself beauitfully. She was an idiot. Her response should simply have been good luck on taking the weight off and there is no problem, it's a free service.

Actually, I think you behaved yourself better than I probably would.

I just felt like she was saying I was fooling myself if I thought I would ever need those rings resized. I am so happy to be on medication because before I was prone to outbursts.

I personally would not have wasted my time arguing with an ignorant person. I would have just said "sorry to hear that nothing works for you" and ended it.

I don't feel I argued. I just rather tersely described the Medifast transition and maintenance plans, then said good-bye.

I know you did, but I deal with negative people like that every day at work and I am fed up with defending MF.

Good on you Biki! That experience can just fuel the fire so that when you come back to that store 1 year from now and buy another ring in a smaller size.... you can smile at her while saying to her silently in your head... "In your face, lady!"

I'm always a bit aghast at sales people who get waaaay too personal. It's ok if I know them personally (marginally ok) but please. That's just rude.

Just a positive from us. Last weekend when we were shopping for clothes (and mentioned why to the sales people), they all asked how we lost... we told them, they were excited and wanted to know more (if not for them for family members). So, it is worth at least bringing it up, and those who react the way that Biki's jewelry gal reacted... well, fooey on them.
