Da Vinci Gourmet Syrups Question + B-52

Postby hawaiiwhatnot » June 9th, 2004, 9:10 pm

Aloha all,

Day 9 and haven't felt better in years (on full fast shakes & boullion)!

How thick in consistency are the Da Vinci Gourmet Sugar Free Syrups?

I have a shave ice machine and wondered if they would work for it.
Shave ice is a popular treat in Hawaii - it's like a snow cone but the ice is much finer since it's shaved from a block instead of ground up like snow cone ice.

How many tablespoons a day of this syrup is acceptable for Medifast purposes? I know recipes call for a tablespoon or two into the shakes.

I would think it's acceptable for shave ice too if it's just a few tablespoons. However, based on the consistency I wonder if it takes more than one or two tablespoons to make a snow cone or shave ice.

Also, does anyone know how many tablespoons of these syrups are allowed each day when doing Medifast? I haven't been able to find the ingredients list on these syrups as to carbs, etc. Although I know they have zero calories.

BTW, did find what the flavor B-52 is on this site which also describes the taste of their other flavors: http://www.netrition.com/davinci_syrups_page.html

B-52 is: Named for the famous bar drink made from Kahlúa liqueur, Irish Cream and Grand Marnier. This non-alcoholic syrup is a combination of coffee, Irish Cream and a hint of orange flavor.

Hi Camille,

I think the syrups are pretty thick - what you could do is try one bottle and see how it works. I'm not sure how much a day you can have though. I bought some, but after the first few tries, it's just too much bother, and I haven't used em since.

Welcome to our forum - I think you're our first Hawaiian! My cousin lives on Molokai, and I had the opportunity to spend the summer there (and Oahu) several years ago. If it wasn't for the animal quarantine I would've moved! I thought it was gorgeous.

Keep shakin'!

I have used the syrups for shaved ice and they work great. They are similar in consistency to the syrup you normally use to make snow cones. I didn't measure but didn't use more than a tablespoon or 2 of the syrup.

I'm really not crazy about them - I think they have an aftertaste - particularly the fruit flavors but I know a lot of people swear by them. My 3 year old also loves them on shaved ice and it is a nice sugar free treat for her.

Mahalo for your replies! Sylvia it's nice to know it's been tried and appreciate the comment about the aftertaste since my husband would be eating these too. I'm gonna try to find them locally since shipping to Hawaii is just as much as the syrup itself. I will try just one at first now.

Carrie, thanks for the warm welcome-- it's so nice to be here. BTW, if thinking of relocating the quarantine laws have been amended so they're much easier!

Day 10 now my shorts are getting :point: baggier!!!!!!

Alo---HA!

The Davinci Gourmet Sugar Free Syrups have ZERO calories, ZERO carbs, ZERO fat, ZERO sugars, ZERO protein and 5 mg of sodium per tablespoon.

While the syrups are syrupy, I think they are a teensy on the thin side compared to some syrups I've seen used for shave ice.

My buds detect an after taste, too but there are times when an after taste is better than no taste! There are times that an after taste is better than guzzling something from the FORBIDDEN ZONE!

Hey, welcome to the Forum! I'll be visiting Hawaii very soon!

I for one absolutely LOVE those syrups. I have ordered around 10 different flavors over the last couple of months, and I haven't run into a bad one yet. I only use them in the last two shakes of the day, though, made in a blender with lots of ice and a couple of packets of Sweet-n-Low, just to make them more special. I'm really partial to the white chocolate, macadamia nut, caramel, and the butter rum, but the others are wonderful, also! And, I've never picked up on an aftertaste. I sincerely hope you'll be able to find them where you live, Camille.

My daughter and I visited Kauai last year. We went with a small group in kyacks back to one of those wonderful little secluded waterfalls you see in all the commercials regarding Hawaii vacations. Everyone had brought a swim suit, except for me, of course, but I didn't want to pass up the chance to swim out to the waterfall and stand beneath the water. I had on big, baggy shorts and a big, baggy T-Shirt, and the water hitting all that clothing made it incredibley difficult swim, of course, or to even stand upright in the falls. I made it, though, but it was very embarrassing, as I stood out like a sore thumb in my big, baggy, wet clothes instead of a bathing suit. Did I think people wouldn't know I was fat under all that clothing?!? I think of that day everytime I see one of those commercials, now, and hope one day to get a second chance at visiting a tropical jungle waterfall. I may not look the greatest in a swimsuit even then, but I'll darn sure have one on.

Being fat is such a sad disability, isn't it. It's like being in a prison of flesh--only it's of your own making.

May God deliver us all from these walls of flesh.

Alooooo-hah!

Yep, we're goin' to Kauai again. We  it there. Practically the entire MakeMeThinner Team is goin'. Woo hoo!

Landy, Darlin' I know of the very waterfall that you wrote about - last time I went I weighed about 188, this year, I'll weigh 128! Woo hoo! ;)

:x How well I know what it feels like to "hide" under a big shirt and baggy shorts - I called mine Baggaloons - they were bell bottoms from the crotch down!

No more. You won't be wearin' the big shirts any more either! :D

When we went on the kayak trip, we went to the “Secret Falls.” I was too embarrassed to wear a suit alone so I wore a black swim suit with leopard trim (natch!) and a pair of my husband’s shorts over the suit.

It had rained BIG time the night before our excursion and the river was fast and the trail was muddy. (Our friend had just had triple by-pass surgery four weeks before our kayak trip. He rested while his wife Bon Bon paddled. Truth be told, Terry didn't paddle much either!)

When we got to the place to pull out of the river, we had lunch – some of my first real food – we stopped at Subway early that morning and took along sandwiches for the journey. We had lunch on the river bank. I ate the meat and veggies outta my sandwich and skipped the bread.

We guzzled a gallon of water and set out on the brisk hike.

I was rather proud of myself because I didn’t lag behind. I had good energy levels and actually kept up with Chris (who is now my son-in-law).

When we got to the Secret Falls, Chris jumped in and swam over to the Falls. Just as I was about to do so, our video camera died – I was not about to swim under the Falls with no camera to record the monumental event – this next trip we will be prepared!

We’re planning on the kayak trip again this time – loved it! Unca is already trainin' - he's riding his bike a couple of hours each night.

Landylue, you will be at your goal ever so soon - thirty pounds to go, Girl!

Camille, you'll be doin' the hula lulah with skinny hips - just think - it will take less grass to make a skirt - betcha I will be able to wear a coconut shell bra  this time! Hah!

Landylue,

Thanks for the positive comments. I'm very easy to please so I'll probably like the syrups too.

As to bathing suits, the only way I will get into one is at gun point. That's going to change soon though as you and I transform into beach bunnies. Last time I went to the beach, I wore my stretch exercise pants over my one piece and got really sunburned. Because the stretch pants were capri the sunburn on the exposed part of my legs made it look like I was wearing red knee-highs for several days!!!! :point: Hilarious looking!

One of my more intelligent stunts! Camille

Nancy,

My goal is 70 pounds but I think it's down to 60 after day 11. Don't know for sure cause I'm weighing only the first of each month. I'm doing the full fast with just shakes & fast soups with some boullion powder mixed in. I LOVE the shakes! How long did you do the full fast?

Camille ~

I did the complete fast for three months and then off and on - usually weeks days I did the complete fast and the five and one on the weekends, or as needed. I was really scared to eat real live food at first because I was outta control!

I started July 16th, 2002 and lost fifty nine pounds by Oct. 7th. During our three week vacation I did the five and one most days, after vacation I went back to the complete/ Five and One and reached my goal weight on February 14th, 2003.

You will soon reach your goal, too. How cool, you have already dumped eleven pounds. For good!

Weigh to go!
