Tyson Mesquite Grilled Chicken Breast, are they legal?

Postby Lulie » May 4th, 2006, 8:58 pm

Hi,

I found these chicken breasts at the store today and wondered if they would be legal for our L&G. They are Tyson Mesquite Flavored chicken breasts. Nutrition info:

130 calories each
7 grams fat
1g carbs
1g sugars
17gr protein

I tried them tonight and they are great. I had 2 of them, because I was afraid to eat my full 7oz with the higher calorie/fats. 2 of them only weighed in close to 6oz. I was still stuffed though.

Hope I didn't do any damage. I thought they sounded ok, but then I got to worrying about the fat content, etc. I would greatly appreciate any advice. If they are ok, I will be eating these more often though. They are really good!

I'm sure they ARE good, since they have a LOT of added fat! Chicken breast on its own has only 1.5 grams of fat per 3 ounces.

hi! :D
Sounds good except they must be coated in some kind of sugar? Is the fat content higher because they have skin on them? Hmmm...It's hard to know what's hidden in some of the things we eat :?

Tyson Mesquite Grilled Chicken Breast, are they legal?

Postby Lulie » May 5th, 2006, 10:26 am

Thanks.

It was the fat that got me started wondering after I ate them. I was so excited to find them that I forgot to check the fat till after I ate them. Then I wondered if that was too much fat for our L&G meal?

They don't really have a sweet taste, but a strong grilled taste that I cannot get no matter how much I grill mine. They taste just like what I have been wanting to make but can't. LOL

They are really good for a change. I am already getting sick of my chicken.

I just wondered if they have too much fat for a L&G?

Have you tried using mesquite or other wood chips when you bbq? I always use chips because I'm hooked on the rich smokey flavor you can only get when using chips :) You can find them with the charcoal & bbq accessories in most grocery stores & places like target/Walmart.

In order to determine how many of the total calories are fat, you multiply the fat grams by 9 (because there's 9 calories per gram of fat), then divide into the total calories to get the percentage.
So...7( fat grams) X 9 = 63 divided by 130 (total calories of chicken) = 48% fat. So about half the calories in your chicken are FAT.
I would say that is too much and would stay away from it.....just my opinion.

Hope this helps!

I believe your lean and green should not exceed 300 calories, so maybe treat the tyson chicken like it was beef and eat less may do the trick.

But that's still more fat than we should have. We're supposed to eat LEAN beef, not beef that's half fat. It's not just about the calories.

Sorry. They sound good. But the wood chips are a good option. Personally, I like to marinate my chicken in hot sauce (usually Frank's Red Hot) and then grill it on my Foreman-like grill. No real "grill" taste, but I like the spiciness.

Smokey taste

Postby gillian » May 5th, 2006, 11:18 pm

In the area next to the barbaque sauce, is something called liquid smoke. They have a few different flavors of it, and from what I see- it is legal. It will give you a much smoother taste then the Tyson - they are injected with all sorts of strange stuff and alot of preservatives. Good luck.

I've tried the hickory chips, and the liquid smoke. They just don't add that much.

I should have known the Tyson's was too good to be true!

Thanks all I truly appreciate it. I guess my family will get to eat the rest of them. waaaaaaaa
