I wanted to add that WW has added healthy fats to their Core program months ago when I was on it before MF. So this isn't some epiphany Medifast had and spread to the masses..

My point was that even though the quick start says ground meat, it doesn't mean all ground meat, it means lean ground meat. That would exclude sausage and regular ground beef which is only 70% lean.

You can interpret it any way you want, but that's my take on it. Please, don't anyone take it personally if I disagree with you.

I will personally have a 5 ounce, 85% hamburger as my lean. I broil it and squish out as much fat as possible.

I will also use 5 ounces of 85-90% cooked ground beef mixed with tomatoes, peppers, basil and garlic, and pretend it is meat sauce.

When I do eat the above things, I know the scale may go up half a pound the next day because of the sodium.

I'm sure all the major weight-loss companies rely on scientific expertise! I'm glad MF is one of them!

To clarify ... The quote I posted was from the Medifast Nutritionist not the guide. 8)

Regular ground beef is 75% lean, not 70%. I asked the local butcher at the grocery store personally.

AAAHHHHHHH!

People, can we just stop trying to one-up each other and relax? We all have one goal, that's to be successful on Medifast. Let's check everything else at the door. I suspect we've put all the necessary facts and opinions on the table, and regardless of what "side" you feel like taking on the great meat debate, everybody is just going to do what they want to do, and the rest is wasted energy.

And by the way, is this REALLY how you want to say you've spent your day? :-)

Wow, Tonia! That's less fat than in a legal serving Salmon (7 oz) which has over 41% fat!!

Yep salmon is a fatty fish, lots of omega-3's in there too I hear. That's probably why they now have it in the same category as the ground beef and we're supposed to have 5 ozs now instead of the 7 it was before. :)

But does your local butcher have his Master Butcher certificate? Because if he does not, the information he gave you might be dated. I better check with my butcher as well. I know he has his current Master Butcher certification. Maybe we can ALL check with our own personal butchers, and do a poll, and then vote to see who is right.

I'm pretty sure that Chorizo, in no way, shape or form, could be considered lean (even if I do make the decision at times to have a little) :roll:
