tuna ?

Postby sidrah » July 18th, 2007, 10:37 pm

So, I could eat tuna fish every day, but, here is the question:

Isn't there some sort of limit on the the amount of canned tuna people are suppose to eat in the course of a week? Not Medifast rules exactly, but just one of those general tuna eating commandments.

I ask becasue I am moving in December and I am trying to use up my canned items. I have been cooking tuna, crushed tomato, and shiritaki for a while. Luckily I found canned chicken from Trader Joe's and I made chicken noodle soup with vegetables. Not bad. Anyhow, I have sooooo much tuna and could happily eat it everyday. My favorite breakfast is tuna salad with tomatoes and cucumbers. Also, I don't haev to spend any money on protein since I have all of it here already. In a month or so I might get sick of it, but it's fine for now.

Most reports i've read say to limit tuna and shellfish to 2-3 times a week.

Mostly because of Mercury levels.
Pregnant women and women who plan on becoming pregnant are recommended to not eat any at all.

Watch the sodium, especially since it takes more than one can to get the required 7 ounces. You don't want to be retaining water!

Mickey said what I thought before I could get around to saying it. Most canned items contain higher levels of sodium, so watch that.

Try some of the tuna recipes here... especially the tuna patty/crab cake version... yummy.

Mike, I admit I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I did a search and couldn't find the recipes you are talking about. I found one somewhere else that you mix tuna & maryland crab soup, but I have to wait till next order for the soup. I'll let you know how it is...meanwhile, can you point me in the right direction for the recipes you are talking about. Thanks :)

ummmm, yeah. probably over 50 in the closet now. Can't resist sales, especially for the good all white tuna. I have been making it in so many different ways that I cannot even begin to list all of them. Of course, I pick a food to like that has too much of something in it...............

Here is another tuna idea. I found this and decided to try it and it was good. Since you only use 1 can of tuna the rest of the lean comes from the egg. Also, you need to split this and use half with your green and half as another meal. The Maryland crab soup is rumored to be very good in this but I didn't have any so I used the broc.

1 can of tuna, drained
1 pkg Cream of broc soup OR Maryland Crab
1 egg or egg sub
celery salt
onion salt
garlic powder
Ms. Dash

Mix and make 2 patties. Cook in skillet with spray of olive oil or other cooking spray.
