Tuna Salad

Postby JCatz » November 17th, 2005, 2:37 pm

Hi gang!

I have searched the forums long and hard but I just can’t find the answer to this question. Are we allowed to mix a small amount of light mayo with our tuna or chicken to make tuna salad or chicken salad? :scratchhead:

I am not talking about the MF kind that comes in a packet but a can of tuna or chicken from the grocery store.

Thanks!
Jacqui C.

Hi, there, JCatz ~

Generally, the answer is NOPE.

We may use 1-2 Tablespoons of low-fat or non-fat salad dressing.

The total calories and carbohydrates for the salad or the vegetable serving, INCLUDING the dressing should be no more than 80 calories and 10 grams of carbohydrates.

So...with that in mind, if you can find a palatable light mayo that meets the above criteria when included with the vegetables/lettuce, etc. then go for it, otherwise, just dream about how it used to taste!

I tried mixing some tuna with mustard once. I love spicy mustard but it just didn't do it for me. Argh. The light mayos I've tried were gag-a-mun-do. I go for nekkid tuna over the ones with light mayo.

Thanks for the info Nancy... I didn't know about the 80 calorie and 10 carbs rule for the Green part of the L&G. That is a great to know. Is that in our MF booklet and I've overlooked it?

As for the tuna, I guess I will try the essential one tuna next time I order until I've reached maintenance or just stick to tuna with lemon, onion powder and pepper. That one is yummy too.

I also enjoy tuna with some red wine vinegar and soy sauce. Both are packed with flavor so you don't need much and they really give a boost to the tuna. Yum.

IMHO, the Essential 1 Chicken Salad is tastier than the tuna...

Yes, wine vinegar or lemon juice and chopped lettuce is great mixed with tuna.

MF dressing

Postby Serendipity » November 21st, 2005, 3:41 pm

What would happen if you mixed the MF Honey Mustard, or Ranch dressing with a little less water and mixed that with your tuna?? Hmmm, I think I may try it! I, too, love tuna, but not nekked. I've tried mixing it with celery, onion, and mustard (any kind), and it's ok, but not great.

Of course, when I do try that, I'll have veggies instead of salad that night.

The Medifast Ranch or the Caesar are okie dokie. Have you tried the Honey Mustard before? IF you like it, it would most likely be fine with tuna. I don't prefer the Honey Mustard dressing...

I like chopped dill pickle, some diced celery, parsley and onion flakes mixed with the tuna and some salad greens.

I just tried mixing the MF ranch dressing (made with the low-fat recipe) with tuna, onions, celery, tomato into a salad. It was just like having tuna salad w/mayo.....I swear! I didn't even add salt & pepper because it had so much flavour all by itself.

Edited to add sidebar to Unca: Why am I not trusted yet? Hmmmmm??? ;)
