V-8?

Postby MusicalMomma » February 28th, 2006, 8:17 am

I did a search, but couldn't find a discussion on V8 veggi juice. I was wondering if that could be considered a "green" in the Lean and Green?

Don't know for sure, but I'm gonna guess the answer is no---for two reasons.

A lot of the vegetables that V-8 juice is made from are not on our "allowed" vegetable list. Also, juice does not contain the same amount of fiber that whole vegetables have--which, as I understand it, is what helps offset the high carb count.

Of course, I'm not a trained nutritionist nor a health advisor, etc, etc.

It would be nice if I'm wrong, though. I love V-8.

Ok cause I love you ladies to death I looked and looked cause I knew I had seen it before and here it is

Maybe this recipe is already on this message board, but I just enjoyed a yummy "V-8" beverage with Medifast! I used cold water, creamy tomato soup, salt and pepper and did a vigorous shake....YUM! I'm gonna make this a regular on my menu! :pour: I'll bet there are other spices that could also be used for additional flavor.

I knew I saw a v-8 recipie somewhere it took me forever to find it. Let me know if you try it how it tastes, I love V-8 juice too.

It doesn't seem like it would be as filling as regular veggies, though, would it?

Robin

You are probably right but I am assuming you use the above recipie as a meal replacement as opposed to with the lean and green. I don't think we can use regular V-8 juice at all.

V-8

Postby Jan » February 28th, 2006, 10:46 am

Hmmmm
If you think about it V8 is just smashed veggies. Can we take green beans -- 1 and 1/2 cups cooked -- smash them up and then keep adding till we get 1 1/2 cups of smashed beans --No. Same thing happened with the cauliflower. Someone wanted to blend it and eat 1 1/2 cups of that. That was tooo much also. Juices of anykind are loaded with calories. After all it takes lots of veggies to make a cup of juice. Stick with 1 1/2 cups of cooked veggies or 2 cups raw. That works.

I'd be looking at tweaking that Medifast Creamy Tomato recipe with spices, and use it as a meal replacement.

Celery salt would be my first ingredient. I'm sure you ladies could come up with something close to V8 flavor...:)

The Medifast recipe Vicky posted would be considered a "freebie" (using the Fast Soup) so that would have some benefits.

I think the Creamy Tomato doctored up would be more like the consistancy of V8.

A little tweaking with the water amount and a few spices should get you pretty close to the real deal.
