Too much water?

Postby Marcelle » August 18th, 2005, 11:37 am

Just as an aside, I'm curious.

I drink a lot of water. I have a 24 ounce sports bottle that I refill 6 or 7 times at the office and I have at least 4 or 5 bottles when I get home after work.

I just added this up. I'm averaging a minimum of 288 oz of water per day. Sometimes more.

How much is too much? Could that mess up my ketosis etc?

HOLY COW!!!!! That's a HUGE amount of water. And I thought 100oz I drink a day is a lot.

Honestly, I have no idea as to how it would affect your progress. I would be interested to know that too and I'm sure someone who knows will pop in soon.

Be careful with drinking too much water. I think it is difficult to get too much, but when you do, it can actually be deadly.

Have you seen your doctor lately? If you are drinking so much because you are actually thirsty, it could be a sign/symptom of Type I diabetes, which left unchecked can cause a great deal of harm.

Everything in moderation...

Good morning all! I emailed MF and asked them about too much water and this was the response from the Nutritionist.

" Hi, I'm Amy, the Nutritionist at Medifast and was referred your email. I believe you are consuming to much water, 288 ounces is about 2 gallons and one quart. Medifast recommends having 64 ounces of water. If it is hot out or you are exercising you may find that you will need up to 30 ounces more of water. I would not recommend consuming much over 100 ounces of water. When doing the program you do not need to take a multivitamin along with it. You do achieve all the Recommended Daily Allowances of vitamins and minerals when doing the 5 and 1 plan. "

Apparently, it is possible to drink to much. Who knew?

Well, I'll drop my intake today. It's just a habit of trying to make sure that I had enough...no wonder I was getting sick of it!

What not to do! ")

Hi Marcelle,

I was just reading about your questions regarding too much water and there's a website that you can go to that has a "water calculator" where you can find out how much you need to drink each day. It actually calculates the amount of water you need according to your weight and whether or not you'll be exercising or not on any given day. I can't remember the actual website name (and I don't think we're supposed to put links on here anyway) but if you go to the search and type in daily water intake calculator then I think you'll find it.

Hope that helps! Take care!

Marcelle ~

My goodness! Are you drowning? That is way too much water! Yup, 100 ounces is plenty of water. You can flush out all the good stuff by over-doing it.

It is necessary to follow the program just as it is written. No more, no less...it will get the job done.

fatBgone - thanks for the info on the website! :)

Nancy - I did kind of feel like I was drowning...

All - fyi I also found it that if you have too much water, it can damage your kidneys and your body can't absorb the vitamins it takes in, because it's just washed away too quickly!

Who knew?

Very glad to have read this.... I've also been overdoing it with the water. I drink my 64 ounces at work before leaving, sometimes even before 1:00 or so, then just keep slugging away at the water. I've never noticed problems with it, but now I'm "leary" of overdoing it. I guess I'll try to space it out more and still drink my 64 before leaving work at 4:00, then just have a few more glasses in the evening so I don't go over 100???
