Yes, that is an excessive amount of water and most likely dangerous.
When a person slurps up that much water, there is a great risk of depleting the sodium and potassium levels needed for proper bodily functions.
Yes, Boston Marathoners were mentioned in the NEJM (New England Journal of Medicine) – evidently there is a higher incidence of death among runners due to hyponatremia.
Just follow the guidelines in your Quick Start booklet 64 ounces minimum and upwards but not THAT far upwards.
