Tomato Paste?

Postby ascicles » May 25th, 2006, 2:33 pm

Is tomato paste acceptable? I don't really know what is in it.

Here's why I ask...

I had an idea for a quasi-pizza dish. I would put tomato paste, crackers, meat, and some veggies in a bowl and mix it all up!

Nevermind. I found some info on it, and it doesn't sound like a good idea at all. It has a lot of sugar in it.

The recommended serving is one cup, and I'm sure I wouldn't use nearly that much...but regardless, I think it's too much.

Hmmm, I wish I could think of a good replacement, but I hate tomato's on their own. I wonder if Walden Farms makes a pizza sauce?

Walden Farms does make a red sauce. I've never had it. They also make a bruschetta. Again.. never had it. I need to order some of that stuff.

Don't get the alfredo sauce. It is seriously some of the worst sauce I have ever tasted.

Hey manly---I visited a site yesterday called active low carber. It is a forum for low carb dieters (DUH)! Anyway, they have a recipe forum and they had some really interesting recipes. There was a lasagne with no noodles, some deserts, meat loaf, diferent baked chicken and fish ideas. Literally tons of recipes. I have not tried any of them yet. Most of the people on this forum are on Atkins or Southbeach, or just self directed low card dieting. The recipes have a lot of cheese and stuff, which will increase the fat content. Some of the recipes could be tweaked a little, i bet. And, like the lasagne, might be okay on occassion. You know--when you have a really bad craving for Italian. But from what I understand, Atkins and Southbeach go much deeper into Ketosis than MF, thus the increased fat in their plans. You might check it out. You could at least try their sauce recipes. There was a good sounding red sauce on there. Let me know if you try anything!!
