Today is day one!

Postby krandle » July 10th, 2006, 8:17 am

Today is day one for me. I haven't been on the program for almost a year so i will have some pudding for breakfast and coffee and water and tea. I will work out for an hour and that will be nice.
Good luck people :D

Welcome Back, Krandle!!! Just want to say that if this is your first day back on-plan then exercise may not be the best way to go. Give your body a chance to adapt.

Welcome back Krandle !! I agree with Arklahoma about the exercise. I had been exercising quite a bit before I started, but realized that the body really did/does need a chance to adapt to the calorie intake change, so it is very little/no exercise for awhile (just a mild walk on most days for now). Also, from what I understand, working out will not help with the weight loss if it's too much too soon.

Best wishes to you on your restarted journey !!

You may be right. I have been working out 6 days a week for the past 2 years. I thought if you have been working out you would just cut it by half. I did plateau last summer working out to much. But i do need to lose 30 pounds. It will be kinda hard not to work out.

Krandle ~ You may be right, as well. I guess what I'm trying to say is just don't overdo it. Listen to your body and take it easy.

Yes, you can always play it by ear a little. You probably know yourself pretty well in your exercising by now. Personally, I know that I can gain all of my strength and endurance back in about 1 month of consistent workout, no matter where I left off, and that seems like a small price to pay for losing the weight I would like to lose.

I am thinking of my former kind of workouts as a reward for when I reach my goal weight. I will probably start working out a bit lightly at some point here, but most likely not like I used to until I am in maintenance. But, it sure is something to look forward to  and by that point, I will be lighter and more agile, so in some ways, I may be even better at it than when I stopped to lose the pounds (even on the first day back). Perhaps the same principles apply to you.

Anyway, I am just quite interested in the subject, so I had to rejoin the conversation.

When I started, I had been working out quite a bit. The nurse said to take a few days off and THEN do half as much. Although I found I just didn't have the energy to do it (especially lifting weights) and didn't lose when I did, so I wound up giving it up for longer.

She told me don't work out at all the first few days. Then do half what you were doing before.

Welcome Back

Postby alohacate » July 10th, 2006, 7:20 pm

Welcome back, best of luck to you on your way to your new goals! My doctor suggested the Medifast Plan to me. She suggested no exercise for the first three weeks, then gradually add 10 minutes three times a week. She said that because of the caloric deficit it would not be to my advantage to do "hard" work outs.

Thank you and she is right. When i think about it i plateued for 8 weeks working out everyday on the medifast plan. It doesn't help it hurts the weight loss.
