Thought I'd say hello...

Postby ELK » August 21st, 2006, 3:17 pm

I have been medifasting since the day before Memorial Day with 38 pounds gone. I seem to loose about 2-3 pounds per week, maybe a bit closer to 2 than 3, but the weight has been coming off quickly enough to keep me motivated, despite the inevitable plateaus. I have less than 100 pounds to go, and I am a little less than a third of the way to goal.

I am married and we cater to several indoor cats. My husband has been ambivalent about the weight loss process, since he likes to eat with me, but he is not overtly negative. Initially he was worried that he did something to make me try to loose weight, and I have had to assure him that it is primarily for me...to make the pain in the knees go away, to keep from taking blood pressure medications, to look better, etc...He says nice things about my success so far, and he likes to tell me nice things others have told him about my weight loss. He occasionally gets impatient when I decline sharing a pizza with him, but I sweetly remind him that ...the pain in my knees has gone away...my blood pressure is normal now...etc., and he says that the diet is worth it then.

I hate exercise, but I am not adverse to touring the neighborhood on my bicycle or on my feet.

I have lurked about the board for some weeks gathering inspiration, ideas and support from all of ya'll. My apologies to Elke, since I have a similar username. I will gladly change it, if it causes too much confusion. Thanks to all...it's nice to have company on a weight loss journey, especially with a group as wonderful as you.

Hi there ELK! Thanks for joining and congrats on losing 38 lbs so far! I'm glad your husband is supportive. Change is hard for everyone isn't it ?;)
Hope to see more of you on the board. Thanks for sharing your success and inspiring others. Are you following the 5+1 plan or the 6 full fast?

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm a 5+1 girl. I like the L&G and the idea of real food too much, although I mostly consider food a tool now rather than a comfort or a reward...at least for the time being.

I would like one piece of advice...I have to go out of town next month for a week long conference. I will not have access to a microwave or a fridge (a rather inconvenient hotel, I must say). I was sorta thinking of taking 3-4 RTD a day plus a bar with an occasional raspberry tea or cranberry mango drink for variety. Is this too many RTD/day? Is a bar/day too much? I have rarely partaken of the RTD's or bars...although I'm not sure why.

How many RTD's come in a case?

Hi Elk,

Shortly after I started MF, I had to go away for 2 weeks, staying in a hotel. I took shakes, my shaker jar, bars, soy crisps, MF oatmeal cookies. I ate one L&G meal a day (for dinner) and occasionally just eggs for breakfast (sometimes I'd order a veggie omelet minus the cheese). Although the weight loss slowed down a bit, when I got back home I had still lost 2 pounds over the 2 weeks, so it is possible to stay on plan (more or less) when away.

WELCOME!!!

Hiya Elk! LOL I put a E at the end ...I guess I thought I was typing my name. You keep the name, no need to change it.
Looks like you have a great attitude for this diet, thats a HUGE plus to have. Congrats on the weight loss and welcome to the group :)

Aloha & Welcome, glad you brought up the "exercise" word. I have yet to commit to an exercise program and realized that it is an important componenet to the Medifast plan. Thanks for reminding me that there are fun ways to get exercise incorporated into my daily life!
