This is like a bad dream!

Postby sandys » June 7th, 2006, 7:26 am

I just need to vent.....I really don't mean to be negative...but gosh!!!

I have been on plan for 14 days. I have a total loss of 3.8 pounds. What is with that?? Someone said that the first few day's loss is probably water weight. That is when I lost 2.4 pounds of my grand total. That leaves 1.4 pounds net loss. Is my metabolism slowing down to accomidate the drastic cut in calories?

My starting weight of 228.6 has been steady plus or minus 5 pound for at least 2 years. I read that to maintain that weight, I would need to eat about 2300 calories a day. My 5 + 1 plan is about 1,100 or so I would guess.

I am having huge, huge frustration. I have been really good. I can taste the sweet ketosis saliva. I have been drinking water like crazy. I have been active without begining a new exersize routine (walk around the block, do some yard work, housework).

Any one of you experience this in your first couple of weeks? I wanted to lose 20 pounds in the first 30 days to reach my first mini-goal (family reunion on 7-1). I just purchased my second 30 days worth of MF. I need to see that scale move. It doesn't need to be drastic. I am not expecting 10 pounds a week. I just don't think I can emotionally handle this rate. I have my dh asking everyday how things are going. I almost cried when he asked this morning.

I know that I can shed 60+ pounds, but not at this rate. It would take me a year. I don't think I could handle the 5 +1 for that long without going off plan.

Please let me hear from other stubborn bodies!
Shake it if you got it, Baby!

Oh NO!!!

First of all, I have to say that I'm new enought that I don't have the answers myself, but I'm so sorry for your frustrations. :x

On the bright side, it sounds like you have really made a commitment to your health and to your body. Especially to order another 30 days based on faith alone.

I'm not certain what might be going on otherwise. I'm sure some of the other more experienced folks might be able to chime in.

You have my admiration and support. With an attitude like yours, you can't possibly fail!!!

I think it might be a good idea for you to post your daily schedule. What you are eating and when. If you do, we can talk about what you may do differently to help kick start your loss.

With that said, everyone loses at a different rate. If you stick to the program faithfully, you will lose. Setting mini goals is good for morale, but really if you are sticking to the plan, your body will decide when to part with the weight. There are lots of slow losers here on the forum, but the fact is - they are losing weight.

One more little note: It gets easier. Honest!

I was going to say the same thing as Jo. Please post exactly what you consume and when (and any exercise you do). That'll help a lot.

Sorry to hear of your situation....I am too new to answer your questions- but others here are highly qualified to answer....many of them have been through not just losing weight on this plan, but also the slow losses.

Take heart....help is on the way!

Yes, please post your daily schedule. It would also be helpful to know how well you are sleeping, if you're getting enough sleep, if you have been under a lot of stress, if you take regular medication.. all of these things can have an effect on your weight loss.

I made it a point to cut down on activity when I started. Not just exercising but my normal dragging stuff around the house and whatnot to get my body used to the calorie drop.

Which MF diet are you following (77, 55, diabetic, vegetarian, etc)? I average about 800 calories a day, not 1100. I don't snack or add in any "extras" though unless I absolutely need the snack. one snack per day.

You have the option of speaking with your Health Advisor (if you have one) about your difficulties.

You can also call the Medifast Nutritionist and speak to them. They have a deep understanding of why the program is structured the way it is and may be able to give you hints on where you can change things.

DItto. We can help better if we know what you are eating, when you are eating it, and how much water you are drinking.

I can see why you're concerned Sandy...the amount you've lost does seem lower than the usual, but there are some that lose slowly but do better on Medifast than any other program. I know it's been the most effective wt-loss plan for me. Do you order under a Health advisor? I know that there are many fabulous H.A.'s right here at MMT. I think Robin (Dogma) is an H.A.--and my own sweet H.A., Jan, has been a life-line for me and kept my sagging spirits up!

One thought....I know that you live pretty close to me, and this heat wave we've been having for the past two weeks might have something to do with your slow loss. Are you drinking enough water? With our low humidity.....and very HOT, dry heat, maybe you're fighting dehydration. Last week, my scale went UP just slightly every day in spite of complying completely with MF. I was working out in my garden every day and even though I was drinking a ton of water, I think my scale was going up because of the heat and stress to my body. Maybe you're on the verge of a huge weight-loss....I've lost 3 pounds since Monday morning. If you hang in there you probably will see a large drop SOON.

PM or email me and I'd be happy to have you call me or I could call you....it wouldn't be long distance since you're just a few towns away.

Hey, Sandy.

Hang in there! Hopefully my buddy SharonR will chime here about her experience.

Are you getting all your packets in and on time?

Are you drinking a MINIMUM of 64 oz of water? (This is one instance where more really IS better.)

Have you remembered to cut your exercise in half or not start if you weren't previously?

What's your Lean and Green meal like?

What about hidden stuff (for me, it was powdered creamer)?

Another thing I'd really recommend is getting a copy of "Success in a Shaker Jar." There's some really good stuff in there about the program.
Here's to our mutual success! :buddies: --Diana

Hi Sandy! Guess what? I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!! I am ending my 6th week and finally lost 20 pounds. Most people lose that in a month so I hear if not more.
One thing I think you have to realize is, the weight will come off if you stick to it. Your body may fight you now, but sooner or later you will see the pounds disappear.

For me it was the water. My husband who is also on plan has lost 38 pounds in the same amount of time that I have lost my 20. He drinks about 100 oz. of water a day! Let's face it, I can't do that. He did however put me on a "water drinking scheduale" that has really helped me. I drink 40 oz. before 11:00 a.m. Then in the afternoon I try to get another 30 to 40 in. I realized that I was drinking about 40 to 50 oz. a day before that. That was just not enough for my body to shed the fat.

Right now I have a cold, and this is a crucial time to drink more water, but when in fact yesterday I bet I drank 40 oz. total. So I got on the scale today and I had gained a half pound. For the first time I wasn't upset with the gain, because I am learning to understand my body. I know that It was missing it's water yesterday. So today I will FLOOD ...lol...myself.

Please let us know what your eating and when. That will help us to give you better advise. Also this is just me...not Medifast. I learned that if I don't eat anything after 7:00 pm I have a better lose. I know medifast says to have your last meal at 9:00 pm. But when I cut that out and had it earlier I saw more progress. You just need to do what best for you. Also know that is a "plan" that is not suitable for everyone. Find a way for it to work for you, it's a lot of trial and error.

So BE ENCOURAGED TODAY! :)

Sharon
