Is this OK for an occasional L&G?

Postby nickieluv » April 23rd, 2007, 2:18 pm

Has anybody tried the South Beach frozen dinners? They were on sale for $1 at my Dad's store so I bought three. My husband ate one and hated it so they've been sitting in the freezer. I was not in mood for salmon so I dug one out and am going to have it for dinner tonight. It seems to be pretty much in the guidelines (looks like the right amount of meat and veggies, and that's all that's in it - chicken and green beans) but here's the info:

Calories 270 (100 from fat - high?)
Fat 11g (sat. 2, trans 0, poly 4.5, mono 4)
Cholesterol 65mg
Sodium 660mg (wow that's really high, right?)
Carb 13 (fiber 4, sugar 3)
Protein 28g

All right, so on the package it looked OK but now that I've written it out maybe I shouldn't eat it. The sodium seems way high. What do you think?

Sodium is high and the protein is too low. We're supposed to have more than 35g of protein with our lean.

Well, I ate it, but maybe this is why I was starving 30 minutes later! I didn't know how ounces translated into grams and 28 sounded like a lot. It seems to have been the last one in the house - I thought I bought three but that's only two accounted for so I must have remembered wrong. No more frozen dinners!

Nickie,

I don't think that I've every found a "TV" dinner that doesn't have too much of anything... especially sodium.

This alot of sodium, and as Pashta said, too little protein. In addition to that.... its 37% fat. Definitely not lean.

I would say.... just because you bought it at some point, it may not be worth the calories for you to have it. There are times when I buy something and take one bite and realize, this just isn't worth the calories. Yeah, it was economical, but since it really didn't help you with a nutritious meal...... well, you know. ;)

Hope you have a great tomorrow.
