Apropos of nothing, did you know that if you have a grandparent born in Ireland (either north or south), the Republic of Ireland will give you a passport and call you a citizen? There are some hoops to jump through, but not difficult ones; they are all to do with the paperwork showing your grandparent's place of birth and your descent from him or her. I'm in the process of doing that now.

That's pretty cool! But what if I just *want* to be Irish? Do they issue passports to wannabes? What if I dressed up like a hedgehog in a leprechaun suit?

My grandmother is the great grand-daugher of King O'Brien from Ireland! There may be a few more "greats" in there. And boy do I wish I had regal money to show for it! But alas....

Do you think they'd make me a citizen??? :-P

My daughter has a dream of being an exchange student and Ireland is her #1 choice of where she'd like to go! I'd love to go there too, but not willing to make the BIG FLIGHT over the grand ocean yet. Carribbean is about as much flying over water as I can handle so far!!
