The gall bladder is coming out

Postby Prancer » October 12th, 2006, 7:21 am

I posted a few weeks ago about having a gall bladder attack. Since then I have had 2 more minor ones and the other other night a HUGE one. I spent the day at the hospital yesterday and went back to my dr today. I am waiting for them to call with the appt for the surgeon. I am hoping to get it done right away because DH is off from the 13th until the 24th and I would like him with me and home to help me. The dr said that sometimes by going on a diet and eating right like we all are that sometimes that in itself can trigger stones. Go figure. They said it is easy laproscopic surgery and I will be back to work the next day. Which is just great, now I have to go get a job

The upside is that I can barely stomach anything other then water and I did have some scrambled eggs. So looks like it wont derail my WL.

Jenn,

Good news at least that you know for sure what's going on and it can be fixed!

And my goodness, girl, you have one of the hardest jobs.... raising your kids and caring for your home! You deserve more than one day off!

Hope it all goes well

Hey there, JennP ~

 So...the old GB bit the dust, eh?

It doesn't feel very good when that little organ starts squeezing down on the little rocks, does it?

Well, mine was skanky before I started on Medifast - I had gb attacks for many years and somehow escaped infection; mine went south, too.

For those who can have theirs removed laproscopically, it's not a difficult operation to endure. I was in the hospital at 6 AM and home by 10 AM with steri-strips covering the little slits.

The gnarliest part was the wheelchair ride from the recovery room to the hospital parking lot – the volunteer must have been practicing for the Daytona 500 – the ride made me upchuck… :puke: The pain meds made me feel yuck-o-lah - actually an OTC pain reliever worked fine once I got home.

Hopefully your experience will be easy breezy and then you’ll be on to new and exciting thinny things! :coolnana:

Thanks Nancy, I like hearing stories of people who had it done. The only other surgery I have ever had produced two babies. I am thinking this one is going to be easier.

The got me in to see the surgeon on Tues but I called to have them change to another one who is much closer. Hopefully I can get it out and over with before next weekend. My bday is the 23rd and I really would like to just get it over with before that.

 Ok so I know what got the babies into me but the surgery got them out.

I'll let you know Reginia. I am waiting now for my dr to contact a different surgeon and hopefully get back to me this morning. We found one that is MUCH closer so they are trying to set it up today.

Hey Jenn!

I had the same surgery a few years back. I had no choice, I had 3 severe attacks, 3 days in a row and they informed me that I had 100's of stones, and they were just going to keep clogging up and causing the problem.

I "BEGGED" for surgery and they got me in right away. The normal recovery time for Laproscopic surgery is about 2 weeks. I went back to work in a week and a half, and could have used an extra few days..

It was the BEST thing (besides having my kids) that I ever did! Very little, if any pain and I healed pretty quickly.

Take care,

Hope you get in soon!

Been there, done that...

I feel like the attacks are not going away. It has been hurting all day today too. I plan on begging on Monday. I hope since they could take me so early that they can do the surgery that fast too. My reg doc even told me to really play it up about the pain.

I thought it would be even faster then 2 weeks. Thanks for letting me know Sheila.

I had mine out about 4 years ago. The worst part was getting sick from the pain meds....just like Nancy said! After that it was all good!
Good Luck! :)
