Thanksgiving and ketosis

Postby Unca_Tim » November 24th, 2004, 1:33 pm

One of our friends sent us a Thanksgiving poem and some info on ketosis Nancy would like to share with you.

We were reviewing some facts for our benefit and in doing so...we decided to share them with you, too. At least if we decide to break program...we will have made an informed decision! How about you? Ü

If you choose to break your program in any way for Thanksgiving or CHRISTmas ...drink a shake before your dinner and 'think' meat and veggies as much as possible.

Yikes! Extra carbs, as much as a slice of bread, can take you out of ketosis.

Linda Spangle RN, MA and author of Success in a Shaker Jar, writes... "For some people, going out of ketosis for a day can cost up to a week of progress with losing weight. It may seem odd that a small amount of eating does that much damage....but...remember that Medifast puts the body into an unusual physical state, and your system will react much differently than when you're on a food plan diet. Whenever you eat carbohydrates, the body rebalances fluid levels that shifted as you moved into ketosis. The resulting water gain can make the scale go up...temporarily. Always take your meal replacements, even if you go off program."

She further reiterates, "If you eat food that is not on your program, take all of your supplements anyway. This keeps your intake closer to the protein level that will protect ketosis. Throughout your program, remember that ketosis is your friend. By taking away hunger, keeping your energy level strong and protecting your muscle tissue, ketosis helps keep you on the plan. Work hard on staying within the boundaries of the Medifast protocols so ketosis can do its job in helping you reach your goals.

Whatever your decision....ENJOY yourself and those who may be sharing this special day with you! The MakeMeThinner Cottage will be hosting our daughter and son-in-law, Nancy's parents, and a family friend for dinner. We suspect there may be a few morsels pass our lips that are not on our program. If we decide that we will stay on program, we can do that, too! Did you have your shake yet?
