HA! We should all light candles in the bathroom and think of T every time we tinkle until she hits goal, hehe.

I don't know that I believe it....'most people'? I somehow doubt that most people give up at the one yard line, but that does seem to be what I've done. I have to shake my head at my choices and decision---what in the world have I been doing to myself?! Ridiculous to work this long and hard just to begin tossing away my determination to succeed, when I am toeing the finish line.

Stalling or quiting short of our goals is very common.
When we have a long way to get to a goal, there's much more motivation to achieve that goal. The closer we approach it, the less urgency there is to reach it. We can become complacent with a "good enough" attitude.
That's why it's better not to aim at a certain finish line. Set your goal beyond your desired result. That's not to say if you want to lose 50 pounds, set your goal at 75. Rather, set your overall goal at achieving and maintaining good health. That will include your weight loss goal, and keep you striving to keep your weight at a healthy level while still having a bigger picture to keep you motivated.
