Hiya, Tawanda.

I'm fighting the same struggle right now! And, wow, isn't that a surprisingly quick slope!

I like tomato soup in general, but I had to make peace with the Medifast version. I still add spices to it, but I've gotten away from needing a packet of MF crackers to crumble into it.

What great commitment and self-talk! I'm going to borrow yours for awhile, k?

Hello all. I'm dealing with a seriously ill mother and brother right now. My stress level is continuously climbing and it has been a struggle to not to grab food to soothe the mental/emotional pain I've been feeling while watching these two family members' health deteriorate. I'm still wearing my size 6/8 clothes--but they don't look as nice and aren't as comfortable. I keep telling myself that I'm doing well to maintain where I am and not to beat myself up over the occasional poor choices I make.

Last night I dished up some ice cream--thinking to drown some sorrows, but then, without taking one bite (!) I dumped it back into the carton. I *know* that eating doesn't solve anything and will, in fact, add to my stress, unhappiness, sorrow......

I don't always win the battles------but I rejoice and am thankful for those I do win (make wise choices).

I am sorry to be so scarce around here, but I am on overwhelm and have nothing more to give.

 to all

T - I am so sorry that you are going through such a trying time right now. I hope things get better for you.

Congratulations on putting the ice cream back into the container. That is an awesome move on your part. You have learned a lot if you can do that.

I'm sorry for your hard times. Great job not turning to food - you will be more help to your family if you are not feeling guilty about food choices. I hope you have good news soon and a turnaround for your mom and brother.

Oh, T, I'm so sorry to hear about your family. The food won't help you OR them, so good for you for putting back the ice cream. Even if you don't win ALL the battles, you're doing the best you can. Hang in there, and try to remember to take care of yourself through all this. I know you're usually too busy taking care of everyone else to do it.

Hello! I am feeling more positive and hopeful the past two days. Things may not have changed, but at least my attitude has and that helps me in so many ways.

I decided that I cannot change my relatives' health problems. I cannot change that they need my support and physical help. I cannot help the emotional roller coaster that I ride when they have their health crises' -- there are a lot of things I cannot change.

But I have taken back over control over how I react to most of those things! I can control if I turn to food or if I choose a wiser way to deal with my emotions or stress.

I feel empowered once again (just hope I keep that feeling  )

We're having stormy weather today...a perfect day for staying indoors and cleaning house.

I'm glad you're feeling better, even if they're not. You're so right, though. There are better ways to handle those emotions than using food, which doesn't really work all that well, anyway. Hang in there!

Hello all--checking in. :)

The scale has been stuck all week which has been maddening since I've been being such a stickler for eating smart. My clothes are feeling less snug which makes me happy, but I do love seeing particular numbers on the scale and when I don't----- :x . LOL

My plan is to begin 2009 below my goal weight and to keep my weight below 147 for all of 2009 instead of believing that it is alright to go above my goal a few pounds  . I don't know why it didn't dawn on me before that a couple pounds 'below' was better than a couple pounds 'above'.

I'm still ordering via BeSlim and almost daily enjoy the oatmeal for breakfast and the Chicken Noodle soup, with MF crackers, for my lunch. Lately I've been thinking that maybe I should be cutting back on how much MF food I buy and use....thinking that it is time to move on to more supermarket foods in my diet. There is some comfort in the foods having less calories and less sodium---easier to achieve/keep my weight goals. Oh well, I keep telling myself that I don't have to make that decision 'this month'.  Guess I'll just think that again since my BeSlim order is due soon.

Hope everyone is doing well. Next week is busy with taking my mom to see a neurologist for evaluation on her extreme muscle weakness and also babysitting the grands (Katie, all the grands are doing well, thank you :) ).

Hi T: It sounds like you are still doing wonderful. What a great goal....to stay below your goal weight for 2009. Just think where you were back in '07...you sure have come a long way. Congratulations.

I know what you mean about looking to the scale for results. I have been stuck all week. I gained a pound in the beginning of the week and just lost it yesterday only to wake up today up 1.5 pounds...ugh!! But I keep pressing on. Someday it has to go down...right?!?!?

I hope all goes well with your mom next week. And watching your little grandbabies.

Keep up the good work!!!!

Thanks Sue. :)

I just wanted to pop in and say that I've tried 2 of the new crunch bars so far.....the caramel crunch and the peanut butter crunch. Later today I'll try the Chocolate Mint one. I loved the two I've tried! I cannot make up my mind as to which one I liked best...they are both delicious. They remind me of a rice crispy treat with a thin layer of flavoring on the top. The caramel and peanut butter topping isn't really a frosting, more like a syrup that you'd pour over ice cream---but it is hardened enough that it is barely sticky. I'm not doing a good job of describing it, sorry, I just cannot think of the right words to explain it properly.

I ordered a whole case of the caramel bars  Yep, that good and it is a nice savings----
$175.50 for a case of 12 boxes (7 bars to a box).

So instead of $16.25 per box, it is $14.62 --- or $2.08 a bar (84 bars to a case)...

I wondered how hard it would be for someone (especially me  ) to have only 1 bar at a meal considering how good they taste (and they are on the small size). Well, I figure that if I want another one, all I have to do is wait another 2.5 or 3 hours and have another one......wait another 2.5 or 3 hours and have #3........and so on..... LOL

I do believe that a person could easily abuse these and eat far too many at a sitting (if you are a binge eater)....although the sheer cost of bingeing on them would put one in the poor house pretty quick

You described them perfectly T. And yes, I too can see how somebody could abuse them. I have been eating them compliantly, but I only ordered 3 boxes with my last shipment and between Friday and Saturday, I think I have already eaten 4 of them. I don't think those bars are going to last too long...LOL!!

Thanks for coming by my journal, Tawanda. I appreciate you taking the time to share your own struggles. It is a hard truth to hear that losing the weight doesn't magically solve all weight and eating problems. I guess if it did, no one would ever regain and have to restart a diet again. But as Lauren has said to me, it's probably more enjoyable to try to solve those problems in a smaller size outfit. Thank you for supporting me - I know one day I will be on the maintenance side of this struggle and I hope I can have some answers for both of us when I get there. If you have any epiphanies, please share them. :)
