Tanning

Postby AmazonQueen » March 12th, 2008, 5:51 pm

Has anyone here ever gotten a spray on tan before at a salon? I am curious to try it, do you have to get completely undressed? Is there someone else in the room that sprays you?

I usually go to the tan bed but as said might try this just dont really know if its worth it.

I go tanning as well, although I have been lazy lately.
I never got the spray tan. I heard you stand in a machine and get sprayed with high force spurts of self tanner. Then you still have to rub it in. I imagine it can get messy and gross.

I dont go tanning all year though, I just kick off the season in March or April and then it sticks with me through the summer. But my Mother who is very fair skinned (Auburn haired Irish) had skin cancer and allthough I've never had problems before it worries me. But I myself am olive skinned being my dad is darker with Cherokee blood in em (not full, cant collect a casino check, darn) I dont burn easily, other than some of my meds that will make me suseptible. So I am just not sure if tanning beds are safe anymore. HELP, I NEED TO HEAR EVERYONES OPINIONS ON THIS! So I can make a more informed decision, oh and I get conflicting results looking it up on the web. So anyway thanks to everyone who helps me out!

My daughter got a spray tan for homecoming. She wore her bathing suit and a woman sprayed her with what looked like an air spray gun. It was OK and didn't look as fake as the stuff from the store, but not a real tan. The new stuff that is a lotion that "grows" over time works for me. It is the only stuff that doesn't go orange on me.

Don't rely on us! Why not just go get it done and tell us how it was afterward! It's not permanent if you hate it.

I did the spray tan thing once and only once. I hated it. It looked awful and didn't last very long. The moment I started sweating, it started rubbing off. Definitely not worth the money.

Thanks everyone for tellin me your thoughts on this, I want to look good without being orange or getting cancer lol!

But sadly its not helpful to get responses like

Quote "Don't rely on us!"

I havent done the spray tan and I am not afraid to I just want to know others experience with it and to see if people still think its safe to jump in a tan bed.

I get tired of seeing catty and sarcastic responses to posts and I'm not just talking about mine!

Aloha!

Believe it or not, I had one last month! I hate sitting in the sun and I am anti nature. Also, I don't want wrinkles so I will look pastey if it keeps me looking younger.....so tanning bed was out of the question.

My sister treated me to a spray tan. I am so very fair and so I decided to go for broke and chose the darkest spray they can give me--Midnight.

You put this lotion on area you don't want tanned, like the palms of your hands and the heels, but make sure not to scratch your nose or rub your arm...heheheh...

Most people choose to be naked because of tan lines but you can wear your underwear or swimsuit. It was an impulse trip so I wore underwear and it permanently stained them.
The sprayer will ask you do you want two or one spray on the face. I said two.

You have a fake topical color that looks as if it rubs off and it does but not so much so that you cant sit on a couch or it will come off on your clothes. It's very temporary and you have to wait 6hrs to shower and it comes off.
This was my favorite part because I was really tan for 6 hrs and it was nice.

The actual chemical that tans you works after 6 hrs and it lasts a week. A week is short but your skin cells flake off at that rate so, even a real tan would fade in a week, so, it's fair :o)

My results sucked in my opinion. I wasn't even dark! My sister insists I am crazy and I was significantly darker but hey, I chose midnight and my husband was still 10 shades darker than me at the very least!

It was a fun experience though. My sister went back and did it again. It doesn't last as long as the tanning bed but it is less harmful on the skin and is quicker to do.

Hope this helps!

ps. I never get tired of the silly posts

I just saw this now. I am sorry if you believe my response was catty or sarcastic. If you want to make your life decisions based on what a bunch of faceless internet strangers think you should do, then by all means, rely on our opinions. (And personally, I do not think I was being either catty or sarcastic.)

No offense, but I have met many of our forum members personally and spoke to many more by phone.

I like to think our forum is a little more than faceless strangers.
