Let' see where do I start? Writing has never been my forte....hence me always trying to keep my posts short and sweet.....

I am 30 years old and have had a weight problem for most of my adult life. Most of it started packing on after my divorce in 1996. Plus I have spent the last 15 years of my life in the restaurant industry (talk about putting a fatty in her natural habitat). On top of that I have worked in tattoo shops for a lot of that time, man....I think I have every delivery places number memorized, the boys would always order in so they wouldn't ever miss a client.

I think like most all of you I have tried many different diets, Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, Grapefruit, even a Rhubarb based diet. I had the most sucess with weight watchers, taking off 40 pounds at one point, and then putting them all back on with a vengence.

Well, somehow this year felt different...maybe it was turning 30....maybe it was finally being finacially stable....maybe it was the security of having the most wonderful BF ever for the past 4 years....but I suddenly felt good. In fact I felt so good that I thought I should do something good for myself. Well, here I am....

I have lost over 25 pounds and this is just the start for me on a long road ahead, but this time I feel like I have friends with me walking that road, and if I ever trip while walking this road, I know I'll have many hands to help me back up.

Tankie, I love your avatar, but I just want to warn you: If you stick around here long enough, there's a lady by the name of Lizbette (aka Silver Fox) who won't let you get away with not having your actual likeness on your avatar.

I just got off the phone with my mom and we talked quite a bit about our past dieting exploits, at the end of the coversation she said that I was taking the path less traveled and it made me think of this old Robert Frost poem I really like....

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth.

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I think it speaks to me now more then ever after choosing to do Medifast over all these mainstream diets that have done nothing for me.

Have a good day y'all!!!

Ok.....this has nothing to do with Medifast....but that's kinda what this area is for right?

So I think I have mentioned before that I am in the restaurant business, so anyway....

Why do people think it's okay to be god-awful rude to their server/bartender??? Especially when that person is going to be bringing them food or drinks????

Now don't get me wrong I would NEVER do anything to anyone's food, but that is not the case for all food service people....

Ugh....I just don't get it

Of course most of the time these are the same people that think leaving 10% is an excellent tip....yeah maybe 10 years ago....National average for tipping is now 18% which is acctually low here in the cities...Here in Minneapolis we are lucky to be making minimum wage...but I know back home and a lot of places it's $2.33 an hour...which means after all of your taxes are taken out your paycheck is zero....

OK Ok....enough ranting from me....I just had to get it out....

I just got through reading the new issue of Marie Claire and I thought it was interesting that they stated the new national average size for American women is a size 14.....that just kinda blew my mind!!! I was happy to know there were more women like me than the anorexiic starletts we see on TV....

Hey, Amy!! How's my tracker twin?

Yep, America is growing -- we're all, then, kinda in the same boat. BUT it begs the question: exactly what boat is this and what kind of cruise are we on?

A size 14 -- I look forward to that, and perhaps meeting the person who averaged out my size 32 when the study took place. (Actually, looking at mathematical averages, it took 2 people to balance it since only 1 person would have had to have been a size negative 4. And, actually, since I brought that up, did the article say it was a mathematical average, or some other measure of central tendency like mode or median?)

This was not the direction I intended this post to take. Back to my original thought: How ya doin? Haven't seen you in the journal room for a bit. Hope you're doing more than great!

And, yeah, what's up with rude consumers? As for the hubby and me, we try to tip between 20-25%...on average.

Diana.....servers evrywhere love you....LOL....

So lets see.....been getting ready for a big surprise party on Sunday for my BF....his b-day was the 9th, but I'm having it on the 16th to throw him off...Today I went and ordered the food (Tai food...Chicken Satay, Spring Rolls both pork and veggie, and Cream cheese wontons) which on it's own was $300, but the real shock was ordering the cake, it's a 16 by 24 sheet cake (lemon souffle)...$140!!!! Jeeeeeezzzz! There better be gold icing!! The worst thing about all of this is the fact that I'm not going to be eating any of it, or at least I'm telling myself that so far. Tomorrow it is off to the party store to pick up ballons and decorations, I have to hope it's gonna be under $200 or you guys are gonna find me on the street corner shaking my money maker.

Oh, quick question does anybody have any good ideas for interesting things to do or have at a 40th b-day party???? Any ideas are more than welcome, except for clowns cuz I am deathly afraid!!!

Oh No!!!
Can't sleep the clowns will eat me!!!Can't sleep the clowns will eat me!!!

Hmmm. My 40th was a "Wizard of Oz" party. My cousin's kids always had theme parties that we went all out for, so I wanted one, too (and since her daughter got to be Dorothy at HER party and I had to be the lion, I got to be Dorothy for my own party; yes, I'm 5).

We didn't really do anything special, though, other than the decorations. Food, cake, ice cream. We were going to do blended margaritas but none of us really drink much. We had champagne, and we played and Oz-themed bingo game to be silly.

And then a few months later - halfway between my 40th and my cousin's - the whole family went to Disney World and on a Disney cruise, courtesy of her parents.

I guess you could have music from 40 years ago or something.

The last birthday bash we threw here was a Mexican themed one for Mike, catered by his favorite restaurant. In a spare room, we set up a photography studio with an inflatable cactus, a handpainted back drop (by a family member), a bench and some props -- sombreros, clothing/costuming elements (sewn by my mom -- simple things), lacy wraps, scarves, boas, sarapes (sp??), long stemmed silk rose, a length of rope, whatever we could think of -- and my camera and flash set up on a tripod. The intent was that folks would go and take their own. Didn't happen. So, I started going through the guests and telling them they had an "appointment in the studio," and I took the pics myself. No one turned me down or even balked. By the end of the night EVERYONE was in there taking these ridiculous group shots. It was HYSTERICAL!!

We also had an album making station (not sure if that's your thing, but...). I put out sheets of paper, tools, adhesives, markers/pens, ton o' stickers (Mexican motif as well as lots of Mike's favorite things), and some simple directions (chief among them: leave room for at least one 4x6 picture). When we got the pictures back from the aforementioned "studio," I included them on the pages the guests had created. And sent the guests copies of their studio pics. (Some are STILL on the fridges.) (be careful here, though -- it can get spendy)

Hi Tankie

How are you doing on your weight loss? I think it would be very hard to be working in the food industry and stay on program. I do have a client who is working for Red Lobster and lost 30lbs from all the running around she does.

As far as tipping goes - I thought it was suppose to be 20%. Sometimes we give even more if the waiter or waitress cooks the food our way. Since I am allergic to all lettuce but romaine there are meals that come with a salad but not romaine. I appreciate it when the waitress arranges for me to have romaine, or if she brings us lots of water or instead of the salad - I get an extra portion of steamed vegetables. I then make sure that person gets an extra tip, thanks the cook for me and I fill out the survey naming the person who attended our table. I really really appreciate your hard work you do for all of us!!!

Thanks!!
