Switchin to 70's but Leg cramps

Postby sudaoning » October 1st, 2004, 4:29 am

Just wanted to share with you all that the doc's advise to switch to 70's with no bars seems to have revved the motor. Now down a couple more pounds for 32 total. :yippee:

And no longer hungry between medi-meals.

But, I have been having cramps in my calf. When I first started MF I woke at night a couple of times with horrible leg cramps. Adding the fast soups seemed to help for a while. I have bought potassium but no results so far. The potassium at the health food store says the recommended dose is about 3% of the RDA. So, what, I'm supposed to take a bottle a day????????????

Any of you have experience with this?

I only take it when I need it, and don't have the bottle with me, but I'll check and let you know.....are the cramps at night? If so maybe taking the supplement just before bed would help??????

Humm -- !!! Sounds familiar about the leg cramps, but mine have subsided. I felt a chuckle about taking a whole bottle, Sudaoing! That's exactly how I felt when I saw the unlikelihood of boosting my intake much that way. What is it w/ potassium that makes it so sublime?? Even the MF packet contains 11%, I believe.

Keep us posted on how it's going -- you're dropping like a fly from the 190s now. The mid-point is something to celebrate!! I'm happy for 'ya.

Likewise, I reached a new zone myself today, smack in the mid 130 pound, so maybe more is coming on the heels of today's change. I can always hope.

Feelin' great today. Will do some cleaning and sewing. It's a gorgeous day and, Lois, my bike is in the back seat of the car going to get air in the tires later. Things are looking grand, so thanks to one and all for this group. Have a great day!!

Hey Suda… I additionally got the “calf cramp” those ones that feel like a knife is about to slice into the muscle, in the middle of the night, woke me up out of a deep sleep more than once. I even had my blood checked, thinking it was also potassium, but once I upped my sodium level, they virtually went away. Dr’ said it was not potassium. My levels (on the full fast) were perfect. I had even bought a bottle, and began taking it, to no avail.

need to add a little bouillion

My bouillon was the magic stomach filler of the evening EVERY NIGHT. I used the cubes, 4 actually in 2-1/2 cups of hot water, with lots of spices like chili powder, season salt, and whatever else I could find in the cabinet. (Caution – this could be flammable in more than one way) I had it in the evening, at the last shake at dinner w/ the family. After the shake, I had the “fire drink” and it made me FULL, not to mention got more than my fill of sodium for the day.

have just had a fast soup with added water / bouillion / spices. fire is a good thing!

it's nearly time for my lunch and all that liquid sitting inside leaves little room. guess the next shake can wait just a little while. :-)

i have sometimes added a little shredded lettuce for more body and a Chinese kind of thing.

muchas gracias mike!

Try CALCIUM and magnesium for the cramps. You can get them in a single tablet (calci-mag) or, since you already have the one...just buy the other. Follow the instuctions for dosage. My whole family has been doing this for years.....it works!

hugs,

Lois

P.S. I totally agree with Mike about the bullion......

thanks lois.

when i was at the health food store my brain kept directing me toward the calcium / magnesium products, but i didn't listen. will pick some up.
prior to mf i used an all in one vitamin mineral product that was super and took care of all this stuff, but stopped so i would not interfere with my mf program.
guess the body is rebelling a little.
the sodium seems to have helped. no cramps in the past 2 days.
