I love sushi too. You can get the seaweed from a store and get raddish sprouts and avocado and what ever else you like and make a "roll" with out the rice. To get the seaweed to stick to itsself, put a little water on the edge and voila!!

And you could make seared ahi which is great on a salad. Or you could make spicy tuna to go with some steamed veggies.

I might suggest avoiding the avocado while on the program, because it is so high in fat. Anyone know what the calorie count is for avacados? Yes, I'm too lazy to look it up right now. But this has got me thinking about fish for dinner, with some wasabi . . . mmmm, wasabi . . .

Yes, the avocados are high in fat but it is the right kind of fat. It is omega3. But you are right, they can be left out. I might also suggest adding some thinly sliced cucumbers to your "sushi"

Hi bokkie,

Avocados are the right kind of fat for later on, but NOT while you are on Medifast.

I would encourage everyone to stick to the plan as outlined in the QuickStart booklet as our Health Advisors have stated. If it's not listed on the allowable vegetables, it's not allowed.

Once we are all on maintenace we can see what works for us, but I think it'is playing with fire if we start messing with the program while we're trying to learn new eating habits such as portion control, timing of meals, etc. while we're in the weight loss portion of this way of eating.

We're all here to lose weight and rely on the experts to guide us. Thanks Nancy, Jan, Vicky and Tim for being here and pointing us in the right direction.

Off my soapbox.

Postby Nancy » February 18th, 2006, 1:56 am

SueInSLO ~

Yup, you're right, avocados are not among the approved list of green vegetables for the weight loss phase.

In case there are newbies or some maybies reading this post, here are the vegetables given the A-O.K. If it's not listed here, for rapid safe weight loss, don't eat it.

Alfalfa Sprouts
Asparagus
Beans (Italian, Green & Waxed)
Broccoli
Cabbage
Cauliflower
Celery
Cucumber
Eggplant
Greens (collard, turnip)
Kale
Lettuce (romaine, iceberg, bib)
Mushrooms (use in moderation on top of salad)
Onions/Green Peppers (use in moderation on top of salad)
Radishes
Spinach
Summer Squash
Tomato
Turnips
Zucchini

Yup, 7 ounces of seared Ahi is great served in a green salad or with 1.5 cups of steamed asparagus or green beans - Yummuh!
