summer struggle

Postby fairladyj » August 14th, 2007, 9:48 am

Hi - I did great with the program back in the winter - lost 30 lbs in 3 months. Made a conscious decision to "maintain" for a while - to let my body adjust to the new weight and decide if it wanted to lose more (better for me than being frustrated at a months-long plateau).

I was doing really well for a while - within 2 lbs of my lowest - then full summer hit, with all the wonderful fresh fruits, which is really one of life's high points for me. I am now up about 5 lbs from my lowest, and wanting to go back "full-time", but finding it almost impossible to live without: grapes, canteloupe, peaches, nectarines, plums, strawberries, blueberries, etc.

However, I'm getting frustrated with my new clothes getting snug --

Carbs make me "blow up", but life is short --
Really conflicted here - do I need to swear off fruit forever to be thin???

No, of course you don't have to give it up forever. I eat fruit every day, BUT a) I waited till maintenance, b) I limit the amount I have each day and c) I eat it early in the day.

That said, if you're looking to stick with the program and reach goal, you DO have to give it up for now. The good news is all the fruits you love will be back NEXT summer.

I really suggest you read the MF literature on the 5-1 plan, transition and maintenance. It will answer all your questions and give you hope for a future of enjoying your favorite foods, within reason.
