I, too, was a 3-pack-a-day smoker until I put them down on october 18, 2003. I had always said I would quit when I turned 40, which i did on november of 2003. I agree with you DeDe that quitting was MUCH easier than I had anticipated. I know the trick for me is to NEVEr, EVEr puff a cigarette again, not even one drag, or i will be buying a pack the next day. I did gain 30 lbs when i quit, kept it on until January of 2006 when i started a medifast-type diet. I have read these boards daily since January of 2006, but rarely have the time to post. I was able to lose the extra weight in just under 5 months (slow loser), and have successfully kept it off since June of '06. I am like Lauren and Rrobin in that I account for every morsel that goes into my mouth, and I exercise religiously. I do eat dessert on occasion, but have yet to have anything fried, or any fast food. I may go the rest of my life avoiding those two things, and that's fine by me. After a while, you quit missing them, like the cigarettes!
Anyway, to Biki, Mike and all the others who are contemplating quitting smoking, just use the same philosophy you have with medifast and I have no doubt you will all be successful!
