Starting weight probably not accurate - what's your opinion?

Postby nickieluv » December 30th, 2006, 8:34 am

Hi - I'm including a poll with this one.

I bought a new scale yesterday. My old one was really fluctuating wildly - like 50 pounds wild - but eventually after much perserverance I got a weight of 258.2. I was expecting 265 so that was nice.

After buying the new scale, I got a weight of 266-264 throughout the day - pretty accurate I think because it was closer to what I was expecting.

So this morning I weighed in at 260. So my question is:

Do I change my official starting weight to 264 so that I have the instant gratification of losing four pounds?

or

Do I leave it the same and post a gain of 2 pounds?

My inclination is to change the starting number to 264, but I don't know if that's cheating. I find it hard to believe I've actually gained weight since starting MF but I don't know if it's dishonest to change my starting weight. I question it because I really want to do it, and that usually means it's wrong somehow. I really feel like I want to have lost 4 pounds, but I don't want to lie to myself.

So, what do you think? Obviously I'm obsessing but I still need some opinions. :)

 I would DEFINITELY go with the new and more accurate scale's reporting.

I don't think it is wacky at all for you to have lost 4 pounds already. Medifast is some powerful stuff! Own that loss, baby!

Obsess no more, you are doing great! :D

ETA: On scale jumping, I try to only do it 1 time right after I wake up and visit le toilette. I've found that if I weigh during the day, it can be alarming to see 5 pounds gained from just all the water we drink on MF (2 cups of water = 1 pound.) Mentally, I know it's normal, but there is a paranoid part of my brain that starts bugging out like some cartoon character... and then starts telling me all kinds of discouraging things.

Must go, the voices are calling... ;)

I can gain up to eight pounds during the day by being fully clothed and drinking liquids all day. Only weight that counts is the morning one in my underthings after I tinkle!
Oh, and Berkie, it is la toilette and that's not what it means in French. It just means to bathe or wash. The actual can is les toilettes, still feminine article.

I should have known the leopardy-enriching one would speak French ;) Thank you Biki for correcting my wrangling! How about La Pee? El Poo? Or just The Can? As long as we don't have to conjugate anything.

Nickie,
I always weigh myself after I get up and use the big man's room (I'm not a little boy after all).:-P
I never weigh myself during the day because what's the point. ;)
So as to not drive yourself batty :eyecrazy: , make sure you weigh yourself under the same conditions each time so that you can see what the progress is (positive or negative).
Hope this helps. :goodluck:

Thanks. I do usually intend to weigh only once a day, but obsession kicks in. The only one I really pay attention to is the morning one, though. When I'm back at work I'll avoid the whole situation better!

OK, I'm going to change my weight and post a loss. But I'll wait until tomorrow - Sundays are still roll calls for people, yes?
