Postby dmhearts » March 17th, 2007, 2:34 pm

Hi Everyone !!
I'm new to the MF program. I need to
lose about 100 pounds. Iam only 5"2 and
254 pounds. I hope this works for me too.
I have four young children (11,6,5,2).
I would love to be around to watch them grow up.
So any tips on how to make it through the first
couple of days?
Thanks dmhearts

Congrats on making the decision to get healthy! You will be here to see your wonderful kids grow up. We look forward to watching your progress around here and I know you will do well.

Probably the biggest tip I give to people is to try and start reducing your carbs before you start so you have an easier time transitioning into the program. Some people have a harder time transitioning onto the program than others. I did so without trouble.

I wish you luck and know that you will do well!

Welcome!

I'm just on day #5 - so over the first 3-day hurdle that I hear so much about. My best advice? Put a current picture of yourself and one of your 4 kids somewhere (or many places) where you can always catch a glimpse of the pics and give you a visual reminder of why you made the decision to start MF!

Honestly, I have framed pictures of me from a recent vacation all over the kitchen, etc. Trust me, they are not exactly going to be calling me to take over the Victoria's Secret cover anytime soon. (BUT maybe in a few months! :D )

When I returned from that vacation (a 16 night cruise through the Panama Canal with my fiance), I saw the pictures and I hit the wall. I had enough and wanted to 'bring back sexy' (as Hulagirl quotes).

Seeing my pictures around is a huge motivator for me and so far so good! I'm down 6 pounds so far and can't wait for the next day to just keep this weight falling off.

You CAN do this. We all can. It's just a matter of deciding what you want and making the choice about whether what you put in your mouth is worth more to you than other things in life (like being smaller size, cuter clothes, seeing your kids grow up, waiting for that call from Victoria's Secret, etc.). :D

Remember what Dr. Phil says, too. "How's that workin' for ya?"

Good luck, girlie! We'll be cheering you on.

Cheers!

Welcome, Dmhearts.

One of the best things I've found in my whole two weeks (almost) is reading the Journal. You will find the best people in the world to understand what you are going through. It's made a big difference for me. And when you are ready, start your own journal. You never know who you will inspire. :D

You can do it Dmhearts! Sounds like your kids are the best motivators! For me...the first week had its ups and downs. I drank lots of water! And...please don't tell my dentist this..but I chewed alot of ice!! I had to keep busy so I spent alot of time on the computer which I normally do not do...going for quick walks...

What I don't do...is watch the food channel. Goodness I use to love it! I can't wait until I am past that so I can start really cooking again. Although that is what got me into some of this mess. I quit smoking 9 months ago and picked up cooking...Bet you can guess what happended?!

Remember: "this is the first day of the rest of your life."

Seriously, it's important to take it one day at a time and sometimes it may be one hour at a time. We are here to give support to each other and one day be inspirations.

Follow the program. Don't think about the overalll amount you need to lose, set mini goals for yourself and when you reach them, reach out and let us know. Reward yourself, just not with food. More importantly, if you have a problem or if you make a mistake, don't punish yourself, you can and will get through it. Everyone of us, whether we have 10 or 100 to lose, all feel the same. We can help each other.

Wishing you the best of luck.
