started the Couch Potato to 5k running plan today

Postby need2succeed » July 30th, 2004, 11:25 am

Hi all,
Hope everyone is doing great.
I've been stalled over the past few days at 178. Its still a great amount lost, but I'm desperately trying to move forward. I've finally started a running program that I've had my eyes on over the past year. This site literally guides you through a running program. In 9 weeks, if you follow the program correctly, you go from a couch potato to someone who can run three miles straight!

Check it out!

Thanks for the link! I use to jog 20 years ago and wasn't sure how to start again being overweight.
Good Luck to us all!
Let's keep in touch on this one and compare notes ok?

I just read over and printed the info on the cool running website. What a great plan! I would never have figured out how to do that myself.
Thanks again for the info!!!!!!!

Add me to that list! I printed out all the info too. I scoped out the local high school and plan on using my week off between jobs to give this couch potato plan a running start! (get it?) ;)

 Let's just say that as easy as the program is... I found a way to botch it. Hopefully I'll gain the motivation to restart soon. The days when I did do it went very well.

N2S, I hope this doesn't seem adversarial BUT, given your rapid loss and the implied streses that your body is going through to support all of that, don't you think it's rather aggressive and self-demanding of you to be doing that kind of training anyway? For example, it seems like you've lost another ten pounds in a couple of weeks, since the beginning of this thread. I suppose that one could argue that I'm babying myself, but I would really NOT take up a running training program on the little fuel I'm putting in these days. I think I'd literally collapse. Just my thoughts......

I tried the running plan for about a week. It was too strenuous for me. I'm at 245 and it's too much stress on my joints. I'm going to walk instead until I get under 200 and then try again.

Dutch Choc ~

Thank you for that great site - I think it will be a great tool for many to use.

You must be lookin' pretty good - I see your goal is 125. You will be mighty slender at 125 for your height! If you do all that running, too - wowser! We'll see you in magazines and onthe runway, Darlin'.

No, Nancy, I'm the "sllllllllooooooooooowwwwwww" one who's stockpiling the meager trappings of calories coming in. It's Need2Succeed who's involved in the running.

When I was doing it, I found that I was noticibly more ravenous with high intensity exercise, and that led to falling off the plan "last time" (May-ish). However, I was far from disciplined on that effort, too, and it was, overall, a case of one foible leading onto the next until the whole thing crashed and I was out of control. Much of this is a slippery slope for me, as for many of us.

Hello, friends! Well.....I've printed the info and I am going to start their program tomorrow morning. I'll let you know how it goes. If it's too rigorous, maybe I'll just take it a little slower (not progress so quickly, if you know what I mean). Anyway...thanks!!

hugs,

Dutch Choc ~

Just wanted to wish you happy anniversary - it has been one month that you have been Medifsting - woo hoody hoo for you! :cleader:

You will be starting transition in no time!

Then when you reach your goal, you may feel like beginning the running routine. :weightlift:

I shall not run - I walk fast.

Years of obesity have ground away at my joints and I just can't run. I have a very painful hip - a huge calcium deposit and spurs that bug me all the time - seeing the ortho next month.

Those of you who are young, take note: add this to your list of reasons to reach a healthy weight! A healthy weight will preserve your joints and help to eliminate arthritic symptoms!

Congrats on your weight loss and dedication to your plan! :kool:

Thanks, Nancy!! Woohoo is right. A month? Moi? It was a very happy thing that you noticed and mentioned that.

This is the closest I've been to success in a long time. The world wouldn't even end if I didn't lose a pound more, I suppose, but I would like to do this on my terms for once instead of being dictated to by the fat part who would take over.

Re transition, I think the thought of that helps keep me honest from day to day because I know it wouldn't be a good option to sneak anything "in" at this stage without having some time to be alone afterwards. I know you know what I mean. :|

I have some experience with the issues you noted in your hip. In my case, it is more of a frozen shoulder (adhesions) that HAS healed over the past couple of years, but still isn't 100% in range of motion and flexibility. I hope your meeting with the orthopedist leads to some good options.

Well, have a good day, everyone. Let's drink up!
