Started off with a bang!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning friends:

I started off or I should say I restarted off with a bang losing 7 pounds in the first week but I have been at a stalemate for most of the second week losing only 1 pound....I feel very bloated and I dont think I have been drinking all the water that I am supposed to :oops: :oops: :oops: :oops:

roughly my schedule...sometimes alternating soup for chilli

8 am...shake or oatmeal
11 am....shake
2 pm shake or a bar
5 pm shake
8pm chilli with crackers and celery and mushrooms and a dash of hot sauce
11 pm oatmeal

snack
sugar free jello
2 pickles
2 fast soups during the day

anyone see if I am doing something wrong????

I think the snacks are supposed to be limited to 1 per day, but other than that it looks fine. I don't snack, so I'm not positive about that.

Just remember that it's common for weight to come off inconsistantly. Keep looking at the overall average and not just what you've lost this week. Some weeks there will just be no loss but then the next you'll see a big chunck....such is the MF life.

thanks so much Jo..that is why I love this forum so much positive encouragement to continue. I have to get this weight off....I suffer very badly with osteoarthritis (2 total hip replacements and 2 revisions) and osteoporosis. Right now I am trying to recover from a stress fracture in my ankle....having to wear a very ugly up to the knee boot until the fracture heals.....miss my exercise :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

very hard not to think of anything but eating especially when one is limited in their activities like no walking.

It looks like you are doing the 6 & 0 plan?

If you are having MF crackers with your soup that would be your snack for the day. You can only have one a day and it looked like you were having 5 snacks a day. Limit it to one and see if that helps. Oh and don't forget the water and lots of it. Happy Shakin!

thanks LoriAnn...I guess I completely misunderstood the MF rules...although first time round 2 years ago I lost 5 pounds a week with more than one snack but I was excercising......

I definately will try and limit my snacks this week and see what happens :roll:

When you average your total weight loss over the entire time, you've done quite well!

Just remember to look at the big picture, and don't get discouraged by what happens in one week. I have lost max 3# in one week, and have gained 2# in one week at times, even while staying on plan.

Hang in there - it works!

I live on the Medifast edge; sometimes I'll have 2 snacks a day! Although I only have soy crisps, or crackers, and if I have one of those, the other snack is a pickle or two. Hasn't bothered me, but to each their own.

It's pretty typical to lose a huge amount your first week. About half of that is water weight from switching to a ketosis-inducing diet. The second week, you don't have any excess water to shed, and your body is playing catchup. Lots of folks stall a bit in their second or third week. Just stick to the plan, and the weight will keep coming off. My longest plateau was 12 days at the same weight, and I know others have similar stories.

Marge,
I agree with what Jo and Nova said regarding weight loss and they are veterns ( I don't think I spelled that right?) here on the forum compared to us so they know what they're talking about. And look at both of their great success! I lost 11 lbs. my first week and only 2 lbs. my second, but lost inches. You'll do fine. :D

Hi Marge, stick with the program EXACTLY and you will lose weight. I am a slow loser, but feel that I have done well.

Regarding your forum entry on Sept. 21 in response to KMR, I was trying to explain to you, that the program is either a 6-0 or a 5-1. You listed snacks as "freebies", and I tried to explain that you are allowed one snack a day, but you seemed determined that you could have all the items on that list of "freebies", daily.

I am happy that you have been finally corrected by others regarding the many snacks you have been allowing yourself. I did suggest, back then, that you read the Quick Start Guide that you received with your first order, as I am sure that there have been some changes in the past two years, that, perhaps you are not aware of, two years later. Anyway, I am sure that you will start seeing a weight loss now, regardless of not being able to exercise. I didn't start exercising until three months into the program, now I couldn't stop myself from exercising, if I tried. Good luck, I am willing to bet that you will start seeing the weight come off now, Marge :D Much success is wished for you!

Thanks so much for helping me out and yes I am FINALLY GOT it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I was definately leading myself astray as far as the snacks were concerned and I thought I could have all the snacks but thanks to all my great friends here I am now "with it"... :lol: :lol:

Another question...can I use celery at all in my soups including the one packet of snack crackers per day??

two questions....

I am doing the full fast but when I have to go out to eat with family and friends can I do the L&G in other words switching back and forth through the week/????

Hi Marge :)

You can switch between 6-0 and 5-1 to fit into your schedule--BUT, only infrequently, maybe once a week, twice, max. You are under a doctor's supervision for the 6-0 plan, right?
Sometimes, out of sheer laziness, I do a 6-0 when I don't feel like cooking up chicken or fish-(I don't eat beef). But, never more than once a week.

On Page 18 in the Quick Start Guide, it lists what you can have for snacks on the MF program. It states you can have up to three stalks of celery, so I would go for it, for putting it in your soups. Crackers once a day should be fine if this is your snack choice of the day. :)
I am not familiar with whether those on the 6-0 plan snack at all or are really supposed to have any solid food at all? When I do the 6-0, I don't snack, but then, I hardly have a daily snack at all on the 5-1 program, either. Others on the 6-0 will hopefully jump in here, and tell you what they do.

Welcome, Marge.

As for celery, you can have it in your soup, BUT be sure to count it toward your snack for that day.

As for the L&G, if you're doing the full fast, you should be under a doctor's care (weekly, I think, but it might be monthly). So it's best to ask him/her about it. If you're not seeing a doctor that often, it is NOT recommended that you follow the full fast. The rate of weight loss is supposed to be comparable, so if you're just doing it to speed things up, please don't without supervision.

I think both of you have convinced me to go on the modified plan with 1 L&G...I think in the long run it willbe better for me to adjust to maintenance whenever I get there :lol:

thanks so much for your input.I was not counting the celery in my soup as a snack..don't know how I got that wrong???but glad to nip it in the bud early on so that I wont be discouraged...

Hi Marge, it might be much easier for you to do the 5-1 plan, as you mentioned going out to eat with friends. Most restaurants can accomodate the lean and green meal just fine. It isn't too difficult to get grilled or broiled fish, chicken or beef, and then a salad, in most places. As for dressing, you can do the 'dip' system, which is to dip your fork into the salad dressing served on the side, then get a forkful of salad greens, as this way, you don't wind up with a 'saturated, guilty' salad dressing serving! Just a thought. And, what works for me, is I keep it simple. If you find yourself in a situation where you are not sure whether you can eat the particular food that is being served, just keep a Ready to Drink shake or a bar in your purse, and then have your Lean and Green at another meal when you get home or whatever.
Also, you can switch your Lean and Green meal to lunch or dinner, even breakfast, and then just have the remaining 5 MF supplements for the day. Hope this helps. :D

That's an excellent tip, Joan. For Marge and ALL newcomers, please always, always keep some extra Medifast (bars, RTDs, shake mixes, whatever) with you - and in your car and your office, if you have one. It's too easy to get caught off guard otherwise and reach a mealtime but have nothing to eat, and that's a common way to mess up. You're hungry, you're running around or busy at work, and you have nothing acceptable to eat with you. So you eat something completely off the plan or try to hold out until you can get access to something acceptable, and wind up starving (and again, much more likely to cheat because you're so hungry).

The single best thing you can do, IMHO, is to make sure you always have access to something Medifast-friendly.
