Stalled out... argh

Postby Laramedifast » March 23rd, 2005, 5:33 am

Hi everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone has had this experience and if so if you have tips for me. I've lost 13 pounds so far and now have been stuck at 188 since saturday (4 days). I haven't gained, but i'm going nuts looking at the 1-8-8 each time I get on the scale after having been 100% compliant with NO cheats. :x I've been getting my water in and have been sticking with the meals. ? Is it time to add in exercise or what? I think this is about my 3rd week or so. ANy tips??? Thanks!
Laramed

Hi Lara! I, and several other people, experienced stals as well. Mine lasted about 2 weeks. Nancy can give you the technical reasons why, but from what I understand it is your body re-adjusting to this new life and trying hard to keep the flab! Be absolutely sure you get in all your supp's and water. Just push through! Most found that after a stall they ahve a big drop in weight. Just don't give up!! It is normal. Make sure to wait 3-4 weeks before exercising!

Keep shakin - you'll make it! :exercise:
Can I suggest only wieghing once a week so you don't get so down?

Yep-- Donna is absolutely right. Most of us experience a stall at one point or another (or several! :? ), but if you remain compliant, you WILL break through it. The best part is that you are usually rewarded for your perserverance with a bigger-than-normal drop when the weight does finally start to come off again. Always keep in mind-- you can choose to stay on MF and trust that the weight WILL come off (because your bod simply has no choice at 700 cals a day!), or you can return to old habits and be ASSURED that the scale will move... in the wrong direction! Just hold on and try to be patient; the weight will leave you soon!

Rae.....That is a quote for ALL to see!!!!.... .....definetly an EYE OPENER...the COLD HARD FACTS.

Lara....been there....am there....and I understand your concern... ...if you are 100 % compliant then you have nothing to worry about....don't let the number frustrate you....there are other positive changes going on in your body that are not always physically visible but equally as important....pray for patience.....& remember your perseverence will be rewarded... ......& for those that chose ...we will all reach goal...sooner or later...we all struggle with delayed gratification in this instantaneous world...the important thing is that we reach goal ....YOU ARE RIGHT ON TARGET & DOING GREAT.....GIVE YOURSELF A PAT ON THE BACK.....

Keep your head up & your arm shakin..... :guzzle:

Lara,

After a fairly big drop in my first week, I too am semi-stalled thus far in my second week. I weigh myself every day and have only dropped a pound since last Sunday. All the advice given thus far in this thread is correct............just hang in there, stick to the plan and the reward will come. I thihk i started exercising too soon which may have thrown things off.

Hang in there.....one day soon you will have a pleasant surprise when you get on that scale.

Lara, I lost 14.5 pounds my first week.

4 pounds my second week.

3.5 pounds my third week.

0.5 my fourth week.

0.5 the fifth week.

Was I frustrated at that point? You betchya! At that point it took all my faith in the program, and knowing that Nancy, and Mike, and Camille, and Sylvia, and all those other people had lost weight, and lots of it, pretty quickly, to keep me going.

The sixth week I lost 3.5, and I've been averaging 3 or 3.5 every week since then.

My best advice is STAY OFF THE SCALE. If you weigh every day you have seven events to obsess and be frustrated over; if you weigh once a week it's only one (in case it lasts a couple of weeks for you as it did for me).

This program works. I think after such a big loss and a big change in habits, the body just stops to rest and rearrange things a bit before moving on.

Hang in there! And good luck.

I agree with everyone on this. 24K and I had about the same experience. If you look back at some of my posts I was extremely frustrated after being 100% compliant and seeing the same number every day. Here is my weightloss journey:

1st week lost 9.5#
2nd week lost 8#
3rd week lost 1.5#
4th week lost 2#
5th week lost 2.5#
6th week lost 4.5#
7th week lost 2.5 to get into the 30# club!!!
I then took a 3 week sabbatical for company travel and a cruise. I gained 7.5 pounds and lost all of them and 2 more in the first 4 days after starting back on medi-fast.

This program works....just hang in there, you will see the scale move. I'm not one to preach to the choir. I am a slave to the scale, but you really should not weigh everyday. I moved my scale to a more inconvenient place, just so I didn't see it first thing every morning. It helped. So hang in there, you will succeed! :D

Here's my chart! Everyone is different. Sure, I'd love to be closer to five lbs/week, but it just ain't gonna happen! However, my weight loss has been very steady, andafter 10 weeks on program, I have noticed that the daily fluctuations have been drastically reduced. I graph my daily weight and for the first 5 weeks or so my graph was really jagged (up/down/up/down) and now it is much more smooth (down, down, down!).
1 1/19/2005 226 10
2 1/26/2005 225 1
3 2/2/2005 221 4
4 2/9/2005 216.5 4.5
5 2/16/2005 214 2.5
6 2/23/2005 210 4
7 3/2/2005 207.4 2.6
8 3/9/2005 204 3.4
9 3/16/2005 201.2 2.8
10 3/23/2005 199 2.2

Just one more thing - when you say getting your water, how much? If you're getting your minimum 64, try increasing it.

similar experience...

Postby LAwoman » March 23rd, 2005, 11:03 am

Hey Everyone,

Thanks for bringing up that point Lara, and thanks everyone for sharing your similar experiences.

I'm reporting my monthly losses here. But I too feel the need to weigh in every morning and track my weekly losses to see if there's a pattern or if something is going amiss that I need to change. I've noticed a slower loss as I move into my fourth week.

I know all our bodies are different, but I admit when I signed up for MF I sure was looking forward to the higher end of possible weight loss. But I just know from reading all these posts if I stick it out, I'll keep losing, at the pace my body is meant to lose.

As Rae said, your choices are the scale going down, down, down, or staying where you're at and possibly going up, up, up. - OUR CHOICE (albiet not always an easy one.)

soon to be,

I know I've posted this before, but I seem to always stay at the same weight for about a week to 10 days and then I will see a drop of 3-5 pounds in 2 or 3 days...which gets me motivated again. Sometimes its hard for me right after a loss now, because I know that I have to wait another week or so for the scale to even budge....but its worth it when you wake up one morning 3 lbs lighter than the day before!

Just stick with it, you'll be glad you perservered.

Thanks for your experiences and encouragement!

Postby Laramedifast » March 23rd, 2005, 7:31 pm

Just want to thank everyone for their kind and inspiring words and for your help with what you have experienced. That is more encouraging and I will definitely stick with it. I've made it so far, so I'm not jumping off now! :)

Today is the first day I have really had a bad headache which is a little weird but seems to be fading a bit now before bed... Anyway, here's hoping for the release of reluctant pounds eventually! Thanks again to all!

response to 24K

Postby LAwoman » March 23rd, 2005, 11:47 pm

Hi 24K, what a long day. Just got back home and saw your question while I was checking in on the MF boards before hitting the sack.

I live right in LAcity, on the west side, taking all the bad with the good.

Pasadena has so many pretty neighborhoods, and I love all the craftsmans.
