Splitting Lean?

Postby GucciGoo » June 5th, 2006, 11:43 am

I have been having a lot of trouble eating my full 7 ounces of lean- can I split it during the day? Like can I have 3 oz of cottage cheese as a snack at work, and then 4 oz of chicken with veggies at night?

Also how many egg whites equal an ounce of lean?

That is an excellent question. Where is our leather clad leader? :)

I have read that this is not recommended but I know that some people do it. I would do a search or wait for one of our fearless leaders to chime in on this one.

Edit to say that I found this post that might be helpful

One other thing on splitting it up. If you do, I think instead of just splitting the protein, you'd need to split both the lean AND the green, so that the balance of protein and carbs remains the same throughout the day.

As for egg whites, I beileve it's 2 eggs or 2 egg whites, which makes no sense. Or up to a cup of egg substitute.

Hmm...in my medifast book....which may be out of date, let me know....it says 2 eggs or 6 egg whites.....
It'd be good to know what is right, I don't want to be over doing it without knowing....

You're right. It's changed in the newer Quick Start guide. That makes a lot more sense.

FYI: Cottage cheese isn't based on weight, but rather, volume.

re: splitting lean & green.

I asked Medifast nutrition support. They said I could split my protein but I shouldn't combine the protein with a Medifast meal.

My stomach shrank so much I can't get in 7 oz of chicken at one time.

As Robin said in an earlier post.

Be sure to split and eat your green with your lean.
You want to keep your meals balanced.

Unca- so I can have 3 oz of cottage cheese between shakes in the morning, and then have all my green with the remainder of my 4 oz of lean at dinner, right? Sorry, I am blonde...

Once again, make sure that you measure cottage cheese by volume, rather than weight.

For instance, you could have 3.5 oz. of chicken and 1/4-1/2 cup of cottage cheese (I would probably go with about 1/3 of a cup, just to be safe).

If this is something that is acceptable, this isn't a bad idea at all. I would love to split my meals into two parts. I could add a bowl of bouillon with dinner and it would be perfect.

I think he is saying that you HAVE to split the Green part of the meal also.

If you are going to split the lean, you need to split the green. For example...

Part 1 - 3.5oz. of chicken + 3/4 cup of veggies
Part 2 - 1/3 cup of cottage cheese + 3/4 cup of veggies

You have to split the entire meal, rather than just one part.
