Aw geez ~ I got to yakking about ME and forgot to ask Suzy about her degree!!

Hey Suzy! ~ So, Management in Criminal Justice...is that administration? Are you currently working in that area? If so, what do you do, if I might ask?

My major is psychology, which I very much enjoy; however, I'm currently taking a Forensic Psychology course that has me completly enthralled. Before I guide my focus into that area, I thought I'd take a couple of CJ courses to see if this is something that I'd really like to pursue.

My Forensic Psych prof is a doc who works closely with our local police department. He's trying to hook me up with an summer internship at juvenile hall. That would be cool, huh? Well, we'll see...

I don't have a crush on Jo, I merely worship the ground she walks on...uhmmm, wait........it snows there :? Maybe I would if she lived in a warmer climate! Ah, well. It was really good for me while it lasted. I may even need to borrow a ciggie from Biki!!

Those are ok, right? Even if I'm married and don't go that way? I lead a sheltered life, remember.

Heck, it'd be okay even if you weren't married and did go that way!

Now THAT should bring Alex back for sure!

Frankie and Sharon: I'm not a comic, but I play one on TV...oh, uhm, no I don't. Whatever! Glad you've been enjoying my pithy comments, and, seriously, humor does help things along, doesn't it?

Kmr!!!!! I'm so glad you're back! As for me still being around...I am, though I'm more a-round than I'd like to be ~ but that's my own damn fault! The semester is nearing its end and I'm not taking any summer courses, so I should be able to get my act together again and get this thing done!

How are you doing?

Hiya Chynna!
School is, indeed, almost over, but you know how the end of the semester can be...total crunch time. I do have a little more breathing room now, though ~ one of my professors has made his final exam optional. He also said that he had a 'gift' for those of us that had an "A" locked in already and that we didn't have to come to class next week at all. Use the time to study for your other classes or get papers done, etc. Cool, huh? So that frees up Monday and Wednesday for me. I'm almost done with my big term paper on personality theories and then the rest is a cruise. No comprehensive finals, just last tests (3). So, yeah, likely a 4.0 for the semester. Yay!!

I need to find out about the hours of internship at juvenile hall, but other than that my summer is looming large in front of me. Whew!

Hey, I have a question :?: for the teachers ~ or anybody that knows... I've been inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the "nation's oldest, largest and most selective all-discipline honor society in the United States." Is it just yada-yada, or is it really beneficial to belong to one of these? I know that not everyone qualifies, but is exclusivity all this is about? That doesn't really interest me, but they do have an impressive list of prominent members, such as President Jimmy Carter, Hilary Clinton, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, John Grisham, etc.

Whadd'y'all think?

Well, unless you think being a member will help you get a job or something.... who knows. I know that its always nice having things like that on my resume', and the recognition is great (name dropping and all), but in the long run.... I would look into what the benefits are that they offer and determine if its worth the fee to join.

Then again, it might pay off in the long run too... ya never know.

Just MOHO.

First of all, CONGRATULATION'S to you Miss thang!!:+)..a true honor!
Well being a professor at Albany State University for 22 years lended me an ear to know a little something about the philosophy of various sororities and fraternities. I personally was not a part of any during my undergraduate nor graduate years because i just didn't have the time to be fully devoted and maintain my studies simultaneously. However, in my opinion, to be associated with THIS society in particular, is a very "prestigeous and honorable" thing. Like you've already expressed, I too agree they are verrrrry "selective" in determining whom they will consider becoming members, and what i love also and consider to be a beneficial factor, is that there is a plethora of opportunities available for all who qualify, and in "all" academic disciplines, and as you already know it comprises the BRIGHTEST and the BEST professionals and scholars there are from all over. There are also various Awards and Scholarship competitions available IF won, that will afford you the opportunity to further the pursuit of "excellence" in your chosen field. One of them is the Phi Kappa Phi Scholar Award, and ther other is the Phi Kappa Phi Artist etc. The Scholar Award is where recognition is given to the "excellence" in teaching, and in public service you've demonstrated, and definitely in the area of research which would be applicable to you i believe. The Artist Award is given to members who've achieved much in there "specific" talents, might it be in the area of performance, fine arts. There's the Literacy Grant, and the opportunity to Study Abroad, which my daughter Errin expericienced for a year in Brazil during her 11th grade school year..(just threw that in..lol!)

So in my humble opinion, i don't think it's just all about "exclusivity" i really do think there is something MORE going on in this society, and judging from what i've read about your academic journey so far, they've inducted the PERFECT person:+))

Hey Sojo..pleas eforgive me...i didn't mean to write a thesis here...LOL! I guess it's just the professor in me!!!:+)

Yeah, I figured it would be a nice addition to a resume...
They have some partnerships with national business chains that I'll have to explore. There are also some awards and scholarship opportunities that I'll have to look into a little more as well. The induction ceremony was a very nice dinner replete with certificate, pin, car window decal, and (beautiful) ribboned medallion. The fee was really minimal and likely less than the dinner would have cost at a nice restaurant. If nothing else, it won't hurt, right?
Thanks for the input Mike
