soda

Postby butterflygirl » February 1st, 2006, 2:02 pm

Hi, I'm really new, just starting my second week, and my first time ever on Medifast. I have a question about soda. Is it OK? Diet soda, I mean. Can I have one or two per day, as many as I want, or should I avoid it? Thanks

Yes, diet soda is fine... you can even mix them in with your shakes. I believe, don't hold me to this, that you shouldn't have more than 3 a day.

The one caveat is to watch out for the caffeine. Apparently it can affect us more because of the low number of calories we're consuming. And it can be dehydrating, so don't let Diet Coke it be a substitute for water.

Hi, thanks so much for responding. I had been quite a diet coke junkie for a long time, and now it's one or two a day, because of all the water. DogMa, I read one of your other posts describing yourself: it's ME. Postmenopausal, slow loser, 5'3 1/2, and a former Atkins girl. It cheered me up to know someone else has pretty much the same struggle. This is my second week, and I have lost 6 1/2 pounds. How long have you been on this plan? How much have you lost?

You're right about where I was after two weeks, Butterfly. I lost 5 the first week, then 2 the second. Basically, it took two months to lose the first 18 pounds or so. Right now I'm down 43 pounds after 7 months (although granted, that includes some difficulties like moving halfway across the country and interviewing for jobs in several different cities, not to mention the holidays).

I have to fight for every pound these days, but it's SO worth it.

It's funny, I used to be a Diet Coke junkie, too. Now I have one every month or so.

Hi to other slow losers!

Postby shortstuff » February 5th, 2006, 11:20 am

I'm so glad to be finding posts from other shorties! We do need to keep talking to each other cause our successes come with smaller numbers over more time, but they do come!!!! I'm under 5' and 61 so have zip metabolism these days. But this diet is working for me and I am thrilled! I lost 4 lbs. the first week, 1 the second, and almost 2 this 3rd week, but it is a steady downward trend! I feel confident if I just do the program, it will come off for good! I don't know about you, but I am sick and tired of losing the same 5 lbs. over and over. I am really hopeful that I will get into some new territory soon! I think we all make real progress when we don't have to deal with the scale going up and down so much! Have a great week and stay with the program!!! Fay :D :D :D :D :D

I hear you on the diet coke Junkie thing!! I was too - actually I can't even believe that I don't crave it as much.

I used to drink up to 4 or more cans a day......eventually I switched to the caffine free (boy was THAT hard) because I wasn't sleeping well and thought the caffine wasn't helping. But I still drank it all day long.

Find now that with all the water etc....I am actually NOT craving it much! I still have one caffine free diet coke in the morning - I can't give up my morning bubbles. But I haven't been having any more than that unless we are out somewhere!! I'm kind of thrilled about that!

BTW - I'm 5'4" but my weight is apparetnly going to be a slower rate as well - I also only lost 7lbs in the first two weeks. But I do feel so much better so I'm sticking to it!!!

Cheers!

Oh, geez, the morning Diet Coke was the hardest one to give up!!! Now the only time I drink it is if I'm out.

I think what stopped the one first thing in the morning was that I started out Medifast with mostly shakes - and even I couldn't drink a Diet Coke with a chocolate shake. :dohdoh:

Hey everybody,
It feels sooo good not to be the only one. When I have gone on the SAME diet as my much taller sister, in the past, she would lose 20 pounds in the first month, and I would be lucky to lose 5. And I sure know what you mean about losing the same weight over and over. I was on Atkins last year, lost 21 in about 3-4 months, then NOTHING!!!!! I stuck really well, and increased activity but no further weight came off. So, over the holidays, I regained the 21 pounds in about 6 weeks. Now with this plan I am starting over yet again.
We ought to start a group for all of us Short Slow Losers!

We really should! We can have our own little roll call ("Woo hoo! I lost another 2 ounces this week!").

What a coincidence, I also lost 7 lbs. at the end of two weeks. I used to be a diet coke junkie, but after a month on Medifast, I don't crave it any longer. I might have one a week, now caffeine free. But, I still have my coffee in the morning, but, am getting ready to switch to caffeine free on that also.

BTW, you guys, despite my snail's pace when it comes to losing weight, today I'm wearing a smaller size (they're marked a 6, but they're more like an 8 or 8.5, if there were such a thing). They're even comfortable!!

So I'm definitely making progress, even though it's slow.

Hey slow losers :) You're not alone.

I lost my first 7 lbs over the course of about 6 weeks. Every pound after was even more of a struggle. I'm 45 and post menopausal so I'm guessing hormones play a part in this.

I went into a sort of self designed maintenance for a few months (happy to say I didn't gain it back and even continued to lose--though very slowly) and am now back full on the 5/1 program to hopefully lose the rest.

Total loss right now is about 15 lbs.

Even though it's slow, at least it is actual LOSS. I feel like I have a tool that WORKS, so for me MF is my little miracle/answer. :)
