Snail's pace

On Medifast five weeks yesterday and I'm finally down 11 pounds. Anyone want to join my Snail's Pace Club? :D -- Tara

:yay: Great job!! Slowly but surely! :yay: I too want to lose 10 more lbs before my stepdaugther wanna be's granduation on 6/1, I told myself no mani and pedicure until I lose that 10 lbs :x So I'm looking forward to...hopefully :lol:

Hmmmm,
I'm going to have to join the "snails pace" club too. :? But I agree with Robin -- slow is fine at least we are moving in the right direction :D

Tara ~ Call it whatever you want, but that's 2.2 lbs per week which is most excellent. IMHO, no snails here. Look's like you're right within the magic MF range ...

I'll join! I've been on almost 4 weeks and I have lost 11 pounds. I know that averages to more than 2 pounds a week BUT I lost 7 in my first week. I am glad that I am losing-but I seem to get stuck for awhile before starting to slowly move again.

I'll have to join this club too. I finally broke through my 7-8 day plateau today though! Down 8.5lbs so far in my third week. 4lbs the 1st, 3.5lbs the 2nd and so far 1lb the third. Hopefully now that I finally broke through the plateau things will speed up so I have a better loss to report for my third week! :)

18 pounds in 7 weeks averages to about 2.5 pounds a week. :boohoo:

Yes, it's certainly better than GAINING, but still discouraging at times not to have it come off at the 20/25 lbs a month rate many are experiencing.

The important thing is that we are doing it. I am committed to keeping my faith in myself and in the program. I can't stay at the same weight forever-if I stick to the diet it HAS to go down. (and I am down 1 pound today!)

And please remind me of that in a few days if I don't lose more weight! :lol:

Most of the people losing 20 pounds a month started with a lot more to lose. And I think many - obviously not all, so those who didn't, please don't take this personally - started with worse habits, so when they cut out things like regular soda and frequent fast food, it had a bigger impact than people who had already given up that stuff.

Just went back to look at my weekly numbers so I could compare. I did lose 22 lbs the first month but then it dropped to 8 lbs the second month. Last week was my third month and I lost about 13. So my weekly weight loss was:

month 1 - 5.5 lbs per week
month 2 - 2 lbs per week
month 3 - 3.2 lbs per week

The early weight loss that many people experience (not everyone has this phenomenon) can not be sustained for the very long term. It's just not physiologically possible but most weight loss is fairly constant. My doctor told me that if I wasn't losing the MF avg of 2-5 lbs per week after 4 weeks then we would need to tweak things. She wants us to re-evaluate every 4 weeks and not a minute sooner. Try not to compare yourself to others, if possible ... We're all different.

I've had a LOT of time to think about it, given how long I've been on the program. LOL

The thing is, I'm doing great compared to how I did on previous plans the past few years. Despite sticking to those plans to the letter, I lost nothing - and even gained a few pounds on Weight Watchers. So as much as I gripe about how slowly I'm losing, it's still a heckuva lot better than I was doing before.

But I'd still rather lose 2 pounds a week or more.

Ditto that, Dogma!!

As far as perspective, on a good week I was able to lose half a pound on Weight Watchers (and I tried it 4 times under 4 program variations), so any time I lose 2 lbs a week, I consider it a month's worth of "work." And any time it's more than that, I'm amazed.

I had a tremendous loss at the beginning -- 9.5 lbs in the first 3 days. Subtract that, and it's averaged just over 2 lbs a week. (Mind the word average.) Still, compared to the other programs I've tried, I feel like it's just falling off! And when my sister refered to me as a slow loser, I was taken a bit aback.

Somewhere I recently read that we have no control over how fast our bodies lose -- I think it was "Success in a Shaker Jar."

Keep up the good work! Remember, as Aesop admonishes, slow and steady wins the reace. Here's to our mutual success! :buddies:
