To snack or not to snack, that is the question!!

Postby Out*With*The*Old » October 5th, 2007, 7:07 pm

I'm looking for advice/thoughts/examples on the allowed snack - - do you do it? Does is aide in weight loss or hinder?

I'm asking because I know I'm supposed to have the 6 meals and the snack seems optional - - is it better to skip it or have it? To be honest, I haven't needed it yet. Of course, I am only on day 2 - lol. I did get a bit hungry today but nothing I needed to snack for - just more aware of my hunger than I was yesterday.

I'd love to know if you snack and why and if you've noticed it helping or not your progress.

TIA for your thoughts!

I consider the snack optional and only use it when I need a little something extra to get me to the next meal. I usually eat the celery and yes, I cheat and put some low fat, low sugar peanut butter on it. Yesterday, I had a large dill pickle - I couldn't believe that the whole thing didn't have any calories and only 5 carbs. My goal is not to have the snack, but sometimes I just need something to crunch on to get me through the tough time which for me is between my third meal and my lean and green (the late afternoon/early evening).

I haven't been at this for very long, and I am sure there will be more experienced input from others. I can't see where a snack would help in the weight loss. I just always considered it something extra just in case.

Exactly, thats why its a snack. Its basically something to tide you over when you feel you aren't going to make it to the next meal.

I rarely snacked. I didn't seem to need it.......Once in a while a pickle from a salad bar.

I had a pickle once or twice. I think it was for legs cramps though in the very beginning. I don't really like pickles except as a relish on hot dogs which I can't see myself eating anytime soon.

For me it is the pickles. I get the baby ones. The reason is because I work at home and in front of a computer all day, I get bored. So I will allow myself 1-3 a day. (They are tiny) It really does help me when I get the munchies.

I have to agree with the others--I use the snack when I feel like I *need* something more. I like the SF jello cause it's like a treat to me. But it's not an everyday kind of thing. Just when my sweet tooth is flairing up! I don't always have the bars so sometimes when I treat myself to that it's enough to cover the sweet for me.

I also like the soy chippy things from MF so when my salty tooth flairs I eat those.

Use what you need, as you need it. Everyone is different here. You have to find what works for you. I know some can't use the bars cause they trigger them to misbehave.

Sorry if I've only talked in circles. But snacking helps me.

I'm actually wishing that I would have ordered the soy crisps now. They have them at the organic market but they aren't on my diet. I wonder what they taste like. I could use my "extra" points to try but that is like snacking for me-only when absolutely necessary.

I have to say I absolutely love the soy crisps. :yay: So far I have had the cheddar and the apple cinnamon. I am going to order some ranch this month I LOVED the cheddar ones. The only problem is you eat the bag and at least for me its like thats all where are the rest. Of course this coming from the man who would eat a bag of pretzels while watching TV.

I 100% agree. I was given a sample of the ranch and I was in heaven. But I know myself that 1 bag would of not been enough so I did not order any. I can not wait until I am able to just say no to the second bag. I know it will happen it will just take time.

One bag wouldn't be enough for me either!! Before MF I tried some of the 100 calorie packs (from Nabisco, I think) and I was just annoyed after one bag, lol. Breads are a no-no for me so I know I have to stay away from the chips, soup crackers, etc. I fear the bars too - lol.

So far I've been OK without a snack - I have been able to have extra water or just eat sooner than 3 hours if I need too. I feel a bit empty today but I know its because of the meds I took this AM for my migraine - they always leave me hungry, its odd. But, I'm behind on my water so I think that should fill me up.

Thanks for all of the insight!!! I appreciate it a ton - - I lan to stay away from a snack until its a need - - Ill snack before I go OP for sure! I really want to make it through without cheating...

Thanks!
