Shakes versus other

Postby For-Me » March 15th, 2005, 8:26 am

Me again. I started 5 and 1 today. What do people recommend for a good plan each day? Three shakes and 1 bar and 1 soup (or oatmeal) - then some chicken and veggies for dinner? Now that I had one shake two hours ago, I'm not sure how to plan the rest of my day and the next two. Any advice?

There is a book out there called "Success In A Shaker Jar" which I highly recommend; it ought to be required reading. It's a handbook for this program, and it will give you all sorts of good advice and answers to questions like these.

As a rule of thumb, the book advises that you have your first shake (or Medifast supplement) within an hour after getting out of bed, and that you have had three by 2 p.m. Space them out about three hours at a time, but if you get really really hungry, especially in this first week, go ahead and put them a bit closer, and if you need to, go ahead and have an extra (just one) shake.

I personally always suggest that anybody just starting the program take an Advil or motrin or some such first thing in the morning and then later in the day. Many people experience headaches the first three days or so as the body adjusts to the program. I never had the problem because, having read about them here, I started each morning with a Motrin.

Good luck to you!
