shakes

Postby KellyC » July 9th, 2007, 12:11 pm

I am finding myself without any time in the day to make my shakes.. I tried making one this afternoon in the car with a half bottle of water, and ended up with french vanilla powder all over me and the car..

so my question is.. how long do these things keep when premade and stuck in the fridge? I have access to a fridge all day. So I would love to premix half a dozen shakes or so and leave them in the fridge to grab in the morning otw out the door.

(I realize there are RTDs, but my DH and I are broke university students, every penny saved counts.)

Thanks :)

Kelly-

I have pre-mixed shakes and carried them in a cooler for a full day's outing. I packaged them up in water bottles, kept them icy-cold and just gave each a good shake before drinking...they were great and did not seem to suffer any negative effect on either taste or "texture".

The only other issue I can think of is whether or not this in any way compromises the nutrients. And I have not tried it for longer than about 16 hours from mixing to drinking. Within that time frame- it worked great for me. I do use the diabetic shakes, in case that matters.

I mix all of mine every morning before I go to work. They keep fine, all you need to do is re-shake them up. They do settle in the bottom of the container.

There ya go. I wouldn't mix them up more than a day ahead of time. If you made the shakes you were having that day the night before or in the morning, they should be fine.
You could even freeze them and eat them with a spoon as a kind of iced-milk. ;)

Thanks for the ideas y'all..

I premade 2 this morning, and carried a bar with me.. I'm home for a break at noon, so there will be time to make the other 2 before I"m out the door again.

Kelly, are you really 6-foot-3? Or did something get lost in the translation from the metric system?

Hiya Kelly,
I was really thinking about the RTD how they can be really expensive. So I was thinking <img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_12_12.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D4%252F4_12_12/image.gif">
I think everyone here drinks those bottle water 16oz. Well what i did is I saved 4 filled them up after I drank the water and only filled it with 8oz of water. Chilled it in the refrigerator. Then I brought my little cooking funnel.(you can buy one for a $1.00) Then I would put the dry medifast through the funnel into the water bottle and shook. It was awesome. Then I just threw the bottle away. I dont know if this helps. But it worked great for me. I do not like pre making my shakes. They get to thick. And now I am going to save alot of money

I have a little funnel too for my water bottles and do the same thing! Much better than wearing powder!

Great idea Katie. Actually, I calculated it out. If you are a TSFL client and newly on BESLIM , the RTD's are about 2.13 each(when you buy them by the case and get free shipping) versus 2.50 each with Medifast.
Not a bad deal. ;)
